Handling Sources
- Distinguish References from the Annotated Bibliography
- The References section at the bottom of every argument, long or short, offers bibliographic notes in AP format to help readers identify sources you have cited in the argument.
- Even for the 3000-word Research Argument, it is not a complete list of every source you consulted or read while preparing your semester’s work.
- Short version: If you quoted, paraphrased, or named the author or the article in your argument, it gets a Reference. If you didn’t, it doesn’t.
- The Annotated Bibliography is a separate post and a separate piece of work that goes in your Portfolio individually.
- The Annotated Bibliography evolves from your Proposal+5. Add any sources you’ve consulted since you posted your Proposal+5 along with their Background and “How I Used It” paragraphs.
- Change the name of your post from Proposal+5—Username to Bibliography—Username.
- It provides bibliographic information in AP format for all the important sources you consulted in your research, whether or not you quoted or named them in your arguments.
- It also contains the two sections “Background” (a Purposeful Summary of the important arguments the material provides) and “How I Used It,” (an explanation of how the work supports your argument or provides counterarguments).
- The References section at the bottom of every argument, long or short, offers bibliographic notes in AP format to help readers identify sources you have cited in the argument.

-“Only matters only when it matters”: Only should be used at the corrects spots in arguments. Each time the word is used the meaning should be understood. The word should not be put in the wrong spot as it could lead to a misunderstanding in what is meant by the writing.

Say things out loud so there’s no misunderstanding.
Your reference list is things you cite/quote whereas your bibliography list is comprised of any source you referenced during the creation of your paper.
You need 8 works in your portfolio (the correct 8).
Saying how much time you’re willing to spend on rewrites is an investment.
Instead of a final in this class, we have grade conferences during finals week.
The more claims you can fit into a sentence without making it confusing, the more effective it is.
The difference between the two sentences is a) that his goodness is undeniable whereas the other one b) means he’s a guy you can’t say “no” too. The point: the addition of ‘which’ or ‘that’ adds two separate meanings to the same sentence.
Find a worthy opponent if you haven’t already for your rebuttal argument — find the logical flaws and inconsistencies. Refute while you’re reporting.
A rhetorical question is used when you have a weak position, casting doubt on your reader. However, you want to guide, making claims. There’s not much need for rhetorical questions.
Your reflective statement is brief comments to each question regarding the core values. Link to the post that best demonstrates the value of the claim you’re claiming.
Your reflective assignment is evaluating your ability to be persuasive.
