RavensFan, we’ve talked about this, and I see reflections of our conversation in your explanations about content and your intentions.

I have to warn you against the danger of “claim spread,” which, in this case, would amount to starting with “working out clears the mind to tackle problems,” and gradually adding 1) it relieves stress, 2) it’s part of a well-scheduled lifestyle, 3) it results in longer, healthier lives, 4), 5), . . . .

You could get 1000 words out of the general claim that “exercise improves mental health” without reading anything more substantial than an article in “Men’s Health.” Shall I look for one?

    Here you go:

Exercise has a multitude of physical health benefits, such as reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke, strengthening the body and improving coordination. However, many people overlook the mental health benefits exercise can have, particularly for men. Regular exercise brings a range of positive impacts to a man’s mental health and in some cases can actually help to treat various mental health issues and psychological conditions.

Exercise helps to reduce stress levels by reducing the body’s levels of cortisol, which is the hormone released during times of stress. It also releases endorphins which contribute to a feeling of wellbeing and provide a sense of calm. Regular exercise can also reduce feelings of depression and anxiety, by helping to promote concentration, self-esteem and feelings of control.

Exercise has also been found to help reduce feelings of anger and aggression. This is because it helps to reduce levels of adrenaline and noradrenaline, which are hormones associated with aggression. The physical act of exercise also serves as a distraction from thoughts which might be causing anger, allowing the individual to focus on their body and the exercise itself instead.

In addition to the mental health benefits exercise provides, there are also benefits to physical health. Regular exercise helps to manage blood pressure levels, reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and results in better sleep, which can then have a positive effect on mental wellbeing.

Regular exercise can also help to manage men’s body weight, as well as reducing the risk of developing certain forms of cancer and diseases such as dementia. It can also help to relieve menstrual discomfort, boost fertility and improve overall energy levels.

It is important for men to find ways to exercise which suit them best. This could range from competitive sports to leisurely walks, swimming or bicycle rides. Exercising with other people can also be beneficial and provide an opportunity for socialising and relaxation.

In conclusion, exercise has an array of physical and mental health benefits for men. Exercise helps to reduce stress levels, depression and anxiety, as well as providing a distraction from negative thoughts and feelings. In addition, regular exercise can help to reduce the risk of physical illnesses and diseases, manage body weight, boost fertility and improve overall energy levels.

    That came from MenGentle.com
They didn’t stick to their own topic very well because they don’t have to. Nobody takes the contents seriously, and neither should you.

You should be on the lookout for studies that test subjects both before and after exercising to compare their ability to concentrate on problem solving. I understood that to be our agreed Hypothesis angle.

    Should I look for one?
    Here you go:

    https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C31&q=%22physical+exercise%22+%22problem+solving%22+%2Bcognitive&btnG=

5,000 results for search string: “physical exercise” “problem solving” +cognitive mental acuity.

The topic is SO big that even trying to limit the number of sources Google Scholar delivers, I got it DOWN to 5,000.

The moral of this story: You can’t allow yourself to write a paper nearly as broad as “mental health benefits of exercise.”

Provisionally graded. Grades on this assignment are subject to change all the way to the portfolio, when it will become the “Annotated Bibliography.”
