  • Professor Hodges opened with WAR by Edwin Starr
  • Professor Hodges explained that it is important to take nots and that it is pointless to come to class and not engage.

MON Feb 2

  • Even if you missed an assignment you should still do it to be used in the portfolio
  • The french traded in their money for the same amount in gold and kept it in Fort Knox
  • French currency became more valuable than US currency
  • Our money isn’t backed by gold anymore and now is only worth what others will give us for it
  • this gold exchange with France help start off the great depression

WED Feb 4

  • professor Hodges explained to us a little about his grading technique
  • all of our revisions will be auto saved
  • you can compare any two revisions
  • during the first couple assignments professor hodges is more critical to allow us to understand that we shouldn’t just sit on our first draft.

WED Feb 11

We watched a video on strokes and the signs for them

  • the video showed us the signs for a stroke. FAST
  •  you want to have an idea that needs investigating
  • it is better to go back and cut words out than to have to struggle adding words in
  • as soon as you find a source open up a blank document and write about it, take notes before you forget

MON Feb 16

  • Professor Hodges read and talked about some counterintuitive articles and topics
  • State your views with respect of the others
  • We learned how to analyze

WED Feb 18

  • reviewed cause and effect
  • just because something isn’t contagious doesn’t mean that it can’t affect others
  • went through some examples of categorical and definition claims
  • looked at examples of mechanical errors and how to fix and avoid them

MON Feb 23

  • Professor Hodges explained to us how to get feedback and to engage in giving feedback back.
  • professor hodges went over some white papers and explained to us what good point and bad points were
  • we ended on the mechanical trouble assignment

WED Feb 25

  • professor hodges showed us an example of a correct works cited page
  • words can have multiple definitons and can be used in many different situations
  • definitions can be used as an argument

MON Mar 2

  • Richard said he was hungry so we ordered pizza
  • Went over conferences
  • no tuesday midnight deadline
  • add 5 more sources to our proposals

MON Mar 9

  • Professor Hodges offers a professor for life guarnteed
  • do you conclusion first, then the body of the argument, then write the intro last
  • put thought provoking quotes in introduction
  • start with a finished product
  • our claims don’t have to be true, we just need to persuade people to believe its true
  • went over the marshmallow experiment

WED Mar 11

  • sentences make little arguments
  • a subject and a verb are the most important components of your argument

  • I was not in class on monday so i cannot post about what i learned

  • keep your searching broad when looking for sources for your essay

  • We took a look at three essays chosen by professor hodges
  • everyone read and replied to two essays

  • Professor hodges brought the class sandwiches and cookies
  • the class filled out the class evaluation

APR 27

  • annotated bibs are due wednesday
  • you are more likely to be right by capitalizing
  • it doesn’t matter how many words if your paper is complete and well researched
  • your paper can be 1500 words of bullshit!
  • went over citations

APR 29

  • grades conferences are next week
  • copy & paste first sentences hodges provided then write 125 words
  • name one of your assignments to each of the goals
  • Hyperlink each assignment
  • no rewriting, upload straight to portfolio, won’t be graded or looked at outside of the portfolio
  • portfolio contains research paper, annotated bib, definition rewrite, casual argument  rebuttal argument rewrite, visual rhetoric rewrite and self-reflective statement
  • deadline for portfolio is monday
