Wed Jan28th- Learned how to create a hyperlink in our posts. Everything you write is crap, pick out the things you like, and destroy them. Stone money? What? Oh, Dave will explain. Micronesian Island called Yap, the people are called Yap, and the currency is Fei. Money made of limestone. The bigger the fei the better. The Yap’s sense of currency is not much different than ours in America. Brazilian economy in total turmoil, 4 economists developed URV’s to slowly lower the inflation rate over time. Brazil’s economy went from extremely poor to quite stable and successful.  What even is money? Mind blown. Sunday night read the post and complete assignment.

When using a paragraph long quote, use the quotation marks button when editing the post instead of the italicized button.

Link titles directly to sites.

Wed April 22

Indoor picnic 🙂

Mon April 20

I thought both the activities were helpful today and thought that the title activity was a fun one to do.

Wed April 15

I thought the activity in class today was very helpful.

Wed April 8

For Scenic Views- Copy and Paste as a Reply one of your own paragraphs that contains a quote or citation.

Finish the IF/THEN in class assignment

Mon April 6

I attended class.

Wed April 1

A09- make up own  title. Immediate cause, Remote cause (distant cause of lasting difficulties), Precipitating cause (an event, rolls down hill, the underlying cause and the immediate cause), Contributing cause.

Mon March 30

Finish Intuitive predictions if not completed

Wed March 25

The most important idea about the rebuttal on Monday’s class is when an argument is invalid because the person is not given enough evidence or reason to be persuaded against their side.

Search any articles in the Rowan Campbell’s Library’s search engine to access full articles for free.

google scholar:  http://scholar.google.com

Research is to form and build a thesis, not prove a thesis.

Rebuttal Argument- An argument to ruin the first thesis. Not looking for opposite of your thesis (safe, unsafe are not opposites).  Need a works cited.

Mon March 23

The coffee filter lets the water go through however it does not let the air molecules escape once the coffee filter is forced to the bottom of the bowl. When the coffee filter is wet it traps air when it is wet but not when it’s dry due to surface tension.

First draft A06 definition- the A07 definition rewrite. Update first post to A07 and copy and paste into A06 so both drafts are the same. A07 can be updated until it is put into my portfolio, but leave behind the A06 category.

Mon March 9

conclusion early and introduction last

Wed March 4

claims

Mon March 2

We ordered pizza

Name an assignment to do a rewrite before making a conference appointment.  Add 5 more sources to the proposal +5 (10 sources in all) due Sunday March 8 by midnight.

Read about safer saws for March 4th and find the claims, quote the constituent , explain the claim (don’t quote), and say what type of claim it is.

Wed Feb 25

Definition Argument- only need 2 sources for works cited (link the sources if they can be linked). Rowan library database can make citations for you.  (easy bib, turabian, or citation machine)

Mon Feb 23

Hypothesis for the white paper- what the results might be and use evidence to support it, not opinions.  Try not to pick a side for the paper, but as an opportunity to explore the topic, something in particular. Find one good reason and examine it in depth and finding a good angle (health, economic)- one reason, explanation.

Hypothesis can be a prediction.

Make sure to match plural with plural and not singular with plural.

he is whom and his is who

Wed Feb 18

Using symptoms of PTSD would be a categorical claim and would not considered a definition. Causal claim- going to war must cause PTSD.

He, them- whom, him- who (subject pronoun). Substitute “you” for “we” First make it plural then possessive.

Mon Feb 16

Take credit for all posts.

Critical reading- look for definition claims

Wed Feb 11

White paper- collecting sources based on your topic/argument and develop a hypothesis. Find a controversial topic and add something unique about it based on your own beliefs. Finding sources that doesn’t agree with your argument.

Form a thesis after researching and collecting sources.  Should not look like a finished paper; finding new information  should be put onto the white paper- free write

Mon Feb 9

Required to meet once before spring break and once after spring break for a grading conference. Go to the google doc to make an appointment.

Grammar- use “their” with a plural subject. Singular forces to make a gender choice

Wen Feb 4

Annotated bibliography for counterintuitive topic. Summarize three topics doesn’t have to be a topic on the sidebar. Always credit yourself and check your name under author for every assignment. Any revisions will be saved.

Start all summaries with “It seems counterintuitive that..”  Not an overall summary focus on a small part that can create an argument.

Wed Jan 28

Remember to open up My Notes every class

For a hyperlink, copy the URL and highlight a word, click on the icon and paste the URL. Click the checkbook “open link in a new window/tab”

Mon Feb 2

Grading conference before or after class on Mondays and Wednesdays. Small assignments are non portfolio assignments and can be improved with a rewrite. To make a revision of any kind, edit your post and comment “regrade please.”

Do not write in the second person. Substitute “we” for “you.” Getting rid of pronouns makes writing less personal. First sentence is most important, must be compelling enough to make the reader continue reading. Less opinions, more facts.

Summarize only the part of the article that serves your purpose. Find an echo of your own idea.- purposeful summary.  Read to try to learn, use only portions of the article you have found to support the conclusions you are making.

Counterintuitive topics- pick a topic with one or two articles.

Physical objects in all the stories are the things that stand out and make us remember- animated language. Look at Cows and Chips

My Notes– tagfcomp2

WED JAN 28:

*Remember to open My Notes every class!
(Copy URL, use link button, then paste in URL and add a title. Hyperlink to source)

MON FEB 2:

*Conferences can be held before or after any class Mon or Wed, if you schedule it ahead of time
*Any time you want to make a revision, write “regrade please” on post that you edit
*Summarize only small important parts, don’t take entire chapters/summarize whole book
*Physical objects embody the abstract concepts. People are more interested in physical objects first

WED FEB 4:

*Summarize 3 counterintuitive articles due Sunday night. Peek interest in topics
*Always check off your name and category before submitting blog
*Thanks for the coffee 🙂
*Start summaries with “counterintuitive”
*Only use what’s necessary in summaries, don’t summarize entire article

MON FEB 9:

*Give 24 hour notice for conference, required at least 3 times, make appoitment on counterintuitive website

*Create controversial premise for assignment

WED FEB 11:

*Analyzed ads

*It’s more useful to find opposite sources for a controversial topic and then adding something unique to that. The audience doesn’t want to read 20 of the same opinions, make the paper more diverse. “Why do you believe what you believe?” Opportunity to re-think. It’s a bad idea to form a thesis before you start, because it’s better to investigate a topic first. It’s a working progress. A paragraph or two may seem polished, however its a working project. Therefore, you should have more material then you need so you don’t have to fill a paper with nonsense.

*Instead of collecting a bunch of sources, find a single source and go to your paper and start talking about it. Free write, it’s just a draft. “Thinking about sources doesn’t exist”

MON FEB 16:

*Topics can still be counterintuitive if you view the topic differently.

*Ask yourself new and innovative questions on your topic

WED FEB 18:

*Use “we” instead of “you” in sentences

MON FEB 23:

*(Narrow down hypothesis)

*Watch for mistakes with “they” and “they’re” …be careful with singular and plural

WED FEB 25:

*Definition argument- 2 sources (citation machine)

MON MARCH 2:

*Catch up with an assignment or rewrite an assignment for HW

*Midnight Sunday next big assignment… proposal +10

*8 claims

*Thank you for the pizza!

WED MARCH 4:

*Claims

MON MARCH 9:

*A good idea is to save introduction for last, since it’s challenging. Instead of writing vague things, start with more meaningful information. Start knowing what you already accomplished.

MON MARCH 23:

*The coffee filter traps air when it’s wet, that’s why the filter is able to keep the water inside when it’s submerged under water.

WED MARCH 25:

The most important idea about rebuttal which I learned was to not say someone’s argument is invalid without stating reasons why. Don’t say “I don’t agree. I need more information,” if you were given information in someone’s argument, use that information and then form your own take on it.

MON MARCH 30:

WED APRIL 1:

We make causation statements all the time. the 3 types of causation is 1. Immediate Cause, 2. Remote Cause, and 3. Precipitating Cause.

  • We started taking about the topic that each one of else will have to pick for the class.
  • We will make two annotated with at least five sources each.
  • For homework we will have to make three summaries out of the counterintuitive topics posted on the blog.
  • The professor taught how to edit and fix “My Notes.” In addition, he showed how to categorize our post with our user names.
  • Our grade is posted on the comments of the professor as a code.
  • We learn from the good things that other classmates are doing.
  • We talked about the summaries for homework; how the stories are counterintuitive and that we should take only what we think is important.

02/02/2015

albert0105comp2

  • The professor talked of the tools we can use in our writing process. For instance, the use of we and not you in order to provide the readers with a connection with the writer.
  • New topics were added to the blog. We will have to pick the topics we want to write for the rest of the semester.

3/30 Did card exercise all 4 should be turned over. answer was card 4 and 1 Worked on true false reasonable unreasonable good bad exercise 50 was so many but they were all interesting points mostly

3/25 Learning about the false analogy rebuttal and relating it to the Fukushima disaster and saying that something as the nuclear disaster that happen being unpredictable didn’t cause it to happen. Making the rebuttal effective by changing my choice of words was something I learned. type in scholar before google for advanced searches research to form a thesis, not to prove a thesis positive reinforcement is depending on definition can be negative rebuttal argument-research something that proves your hypothesis wrong

3/23 my i key is not working, it keeps giving my the symbol [. this symbol will take the place of i for this my notes why does air not go out of s coffee filter. the air does not leave the filter because of the properties of water. Cohes[on and surface tens[on. the hydrogen oxygen bonds [n a water molecule makes [t polar thus caus[ng the molecule to st[ck to each other and other th[ngs that or polar[zed. w[th the metal on the coffee f[lter so close together the water molecule st[cks to the metal and to [tself form[ng a layer that traps a[r. l[ke my classmate showed [f the f[lter [s dry [t w[ll let the a[r out. do def[n[t[on essay ask spec[f[c quest[ons for feedback 3/11 went on rate my professor there is no weaker sentence then one that says “there is” make sentences with active verbs have a better subject elephants are tortured circus owners torture elephants elephants suffer torture which one with the subject is your real subject active subject does something and passive verbs subject doesn’t do anything but gets it done to it choose active

3/9 can’t win first sentence but can lose have a good opening 1 sentence can make or break essay find topics that make people argue very debatable claims in sentences don’t need to be true but shouldn’t be false make things seem reasonable don’t have it be impossible

3/4 How many claims are there, Many different claims can be in one statement can it be proven went over safer saws and claims

3/2 Professor went you jimmy carters haircut and told us to change our split Bought us pizza Make conference appointment and have certain topics and essays to talk about no tuesday assignment but will have a different topic to go over wednesday be fimilar with source material Sunday 5 more sources next tuesday night nothing are things disputable things are all based on perspective new assignment

2/25 Do words actually mean what they mean and why are there different meanings to each word what does being a rapist mean the different meanings throughout time how to make a definition and argument 2 sources works cited link them standard mla format

2/23 going over my notes and how to get reply grades and replies working on hypothesis don’t just pick sides find one good reason and examine it in depth narrow to a proposition working on different types of arguments argue something specific and argue something complex narrow topic that can be broadens from a variety of angles recognizing the problems of our papers so that they can be corrected sentences require logic and when you write them down they they should sound logical

2/18 definition claim how to phrase PTSD to make different claims categorical causal and combination of both and how it relates to PTSD went over grammar

2/16 read passage from book things are portioned and now people buy more for it food should be put on the plate at the stove top rather than put food on plate at the table and you eat less when plater is the same color as your food post assignments on time have reading for an hour and write analysis video analysis on organ taking from people who don’t need them

2/11 take the spoon out of my mouth can we change our minds when on the brink of death you will regret jumping of that bridge at the near end don’t do it biological dilemma counterintuitive when are terriost attacks are defined as such when they just attack indiscriminately not any specific group or person don’t hit a brick went over video stroke controversial topic and explain it in a new way finding sources that aree with you and share them with new people it has no value just bringing the opinion of other peoples in and putting them in one place better to find a differing subject and add it to ours so that you aren’t just finding people you agree with but you don’t agree with and make a good argument full of ideas and useful don’t have a idea wen reading until you start writing re enough of the white paper to figure out what is in a white paper and leave some feedback constructive critiques due monday

2/9 make an appointment made one for march 11 6p, memories are different every time you access them using your current experiences changes them cupcakes never happened we’ve been duped their does not work avoids specifying a gender all/their drop in random genders drop pronouns completely you can write without using them and have everything still make sense denzel washington isn’t african american very difficult to determine choose topic first 5 sources next week rewrite visual avoid broad arguments be specific if it looks like it could mean multiple things reword it until it means only one things, arguable researchable verifiable  consistent

2/4 categorizing post summaries should not be wordy and should get to the point connect ideas and do not be redundant reasonable claims make feedback on the feedback he gives make good points purposeful summaries use things that will further your argument and reshape them into explaining your situation better three parent eggs for babies very counter intuitive americans should stop being ignorant about diseases Americans blows everything out of porpotion and make people feel bad for our attitude

2/2 went over grades and rewrites went over what we did last week on linking sources talking about using the word you and you should never use it as well as 2nd person engage on people on an entirely different on a common human experience or social phenomena that we have rational opinions about keep the reader reading every senetence don’t use i believe detracts from your own credibility. get rid of them altogether don’t recount background unless needed to keep readers intrested should address the cartoon as soon as possible will add small editions of writing to the tab when have new ideas about tips to improve only summarize the part of the article the serves the purpose of your arugement find an echo of your own idea don’t say everything the author said but use stuff that would give us an advantage to not prove a point we already think is true but to prove that it is actually fact being careful of what we summarize to help readers instead of distract them pick a topic for the next 10 or 12 weeks to dive deep into research and it should be a counterintuitive and what it mens to be counterintuitive hire cows use physicals objects to connect reader to the topic to make it more memorable take it out of abstract concepts to make it understandable for people to eat the market decides what the prices are not the gov january started off with war by Edwin starr Went over how to do my notes on blog went over how to insert link went over revisions and first drafts being crap rip up first draft as soon as i can and get rid of my favorite sentences because i holds me back save only the structure or idea, lose the sentences talk about late assignment talked about stone money taked abou t yap and the fey and money and a guy writing a book about it was germeny colony limestone disk talked abou the depression france and gold at fort knox money is worth what you will get in return for it brazil created real brazil went into super inflation

my notes– thatdude

Wed. Jan 28

fei on the island had no value just stone, got left in water but man was still the richest cause word of mouth

same happened at fort knox with french and their gold….took all their gold into containers and kept safe

money was only worth what you could buy .99 chips 20 bags, $10 glasses 2

work all week but get handed no paper..money just a check in the bank aka fei in the water

Monday Feb.2 2015

only visual assignment is for pro, others can hurt you so revise at least once. ask for grade plz or feedback plz after revision

use “we” rather than you or your….get rid of pronouns

eliminate all expressions of what you believe…no..i believe or my opinion

only choose what is really important from a source or author to help support your argument rather than quoting the whole piece

chose countertopic on side where it listed for next 12 weeks

use animated language that helps the reader or audience want to read your essay after or following a detailed abstract argument

look at examples of animated language to help make stone money better

gov doesn’t determine what the value of money is just the fact of the difference from a dollars bill to a 5 dollars bill all not how much of something you could buy with a 1 dollars bill

Wed. Feb 4

D=F C=D make improvements and look at the different easy that were posted to achieve ideas

Monday Feb.9

must meet three time the whole semester once before spring break, once after, and one final time during last week of semester.only can achieve grade from meeting which can be set up through conferences page

kill most pronouns if not able to the preferred pronoun for this class is “we” and keep sentences in same tense such as present, past, or future.

deadline for rewrite has been changed to wed. 12am noon

Wed. Feb 11

In the video you saw several hand and facial jesters, but the ones you should be most aware of is F.A.S.T. Fast stands for facial loose of control in the muscles, arms lose ability to be controlled, speech starts to slur, and then it is finally time to call 911. F.A.S.T is a message to help boost stroke awareness.

Reason for citing quotes is for finding evidence or sources to help straighten your argument and to find people who think differently from you.

reply constructive criticism on professor’s post

Wed Feb 18

Put definition and categorical claims for PTSD in your work to help support the main idea of the post. Different types of being contagious such as yawning seems to make others yawn or a teacher being enthusiastic about a subject then suddenly other students become more enthusiastic…no bug, but both are still called “contagious”

It’s more like matching behavior such as domestic violence or the beating of a child, when the child grows up he still has those memories an mirrors what he was taught while growing up which is violence leading to the beating of his kids or wife.

Different because it isn’t immediate such as catching the meseals within seconds compared to your father having a weird strange and angry attitude for a year which would cause PTSD.

Father has fear of getting shot each day, Mother fears making it through the night as she sleeps and her husband swing his arms at her. Such as a child living in a ghetto neighborhood being around destruction and violence while hearing gun shots every day can cause him to have PTSD.  When Brennan acts out she is classified as delinquent.

Mon March 2

Just ordered pizza in class, Dave’s a cool professor that can be a professor for life if the student chooses…also a really kind guy in general.

Select a comp meeting soon and chose which assignment you want to be able to rewrite

Mon. March 9

First sentence is crucial to your essay, remember to keep info creditable or you will lose the audience.  Have good strong claims to help get your point across but also in short creditable sentences.

Wed. March 11

no weaker sentence then saying something is. Elephants are tourted.(passive) Circus owners tourte elephants. (active) Elephants suffer torture

Mon. March 23

The water molecules do not go into the simple coffee grain holder when turned upside down in a container of water because it is designed to keep small grains of coffee inside so it does the same with air.

Wed. March 25

remember to edited my notes at every class, also that evidence from the author is not sufficient enough for your essay add out side sorcuses that go with your argument and state your own opion and influences.

Mon. March 30

Post reply on card puzzle in the agenda. listen to story about Mac McClelland about having PTSD from secondary experiences. Also posted in Intuitive Predictions about statements being true or false, unreasonable or reasonable, and being good or bad.

Mon. April 6

“Attended class”

Wed. April 8

A writers sentence structure is key to achieving the audience full attention, so each and every sentence isn’t repetitive or boring.

Wed. April 15

Left comments on Juggler’s Casual assignment  Skyblue’s Rebuttal assignment  and Hashmeesh’s definition assignment…..got to leave early cause I posted all three comments.

Mon. April 20

Just edited a rebuttal argument on if happiness rely has true meaning behind it by editing first 2 sentences of the 4th paragraph and then added a title.  Also answer several questions on 4 causal arguments.

Yap small country owned by Germany

Fei was Yap’s money. Fei were large limestone disc that people had to sail 400 miles to another island with limestone since Yap had no limestone. The larger the stone the more it’s worth.

Wealthiest man on Yap has a fei that’s in the middle of the ocean that no one alive has ever seen.

Germans wanted the roads fixed so went around and painted X’s on all the fei and made the Yap feel poor so the Yap fixed the roads then got their fei back, similar to the depression in the US.

Moved gold from Fort Knox over a couple feet and said it was from France. This made the French frank worth more than the US dollar.
