0.01: This ad starts in action in regards to the people sitting at the table, with the camera being still at the same place. This scene starts in the middle of the scene, showing us exactly what the people are doing in this scene at the table. The filmmakers of this scene are starting off light with the camera work, keeping it steady, showcases the action of this scene. The filmmakers would not want to take away from the action of the scene with the camera work, to really make the viewer see the actions done by the people with the books at the table.

The brightness of this scene is dark, and dull, to match the aesthetic of the table and surroundings in this scene. The filmmakers were smart with the lighting because they matched it with the color scheme already going on in the scene. The lighting could imply that the filmmakers had cheap equipment with not enough lighting, but they could be doing the darker lighting on purpose to match the aesthetic of the scene.

In this scene, there is a wooden table, with a textured brown rug underneath. Surrounding the table holds four people from what is seen, each with a book in their hand. The book covers are white, with black lettering on the cover. Three of the people have the book open, layed flat, compared to the fourth person with the book closed leaning over the table. This scene is implying that these people could be at a book club reading together and discussing the book they are all reading. We can tell this because there are extra books in the middle of the table, and there are reading glasses out on the table implying that they are reading. There are also two plastic water bottles, and an orange hard reusable water bottle out on the table, implying that there is going to be lots of talking going on, and how they are going to use a lot of energy and will need to replenish with water. Next to one of the plastic, and the orange reusable water bottle, there are two handbags. Next to the plastic water bottle and the girl reaching across the table with the closed book is a dark brown handbag with lighter brown straps and zipper. The orange water bottle has a larger light pink purse with one smaller strap and one larger strap filled with another book and paper.

0.02: This part of the ad has a different type of camera work. This time the camera is slightly shaking to match the action in this scene. In this scene there is lots of shuffling and moving game board pieces. The filmmakers made the camera shaky to match the shuffling off the pieces and the constant harsh movements that this scene has. The camera is also still at a distance from the game board, not really giving a closeup. The camera lighting and angle is at the same height as the first scene, but with a shake now instead of being still.

The lighting in this scene is darker on the left and lighter on the right, really showing the game and its pieces more clearly, along with the people. The filmmakers could have made the lighting have a more ombre effect to draw in the viewer to just the right side which is showing a more full body image of a blonde haired man, with glasses.

This scene is showing a game board that is a square shape with four people surrounding it. This game board has a black outer edge with a hollowness in the edge. In the hollow part of the edge holds red, yellow, blue, green, and black small stick-like figures with a white dot in the middle of each. Inside the game board is a green surface that looks soft and is a material that things could easily slide on. On top of the green surface are yellow small rectangular game pieces that are being shuffled and slid across the board by each of the four game players. This game board is sitting on a light colored table that is also rectangular to match the game board. One of the game pieces is flipped over unlike the others and it is showing a light cream colored game piece with small black writing on it. The filmmakers had one piece flipped over so that the viewers can have a vision of what is on the other side of the game pieces. Surrounding the light colored table and green game board is a rug underneath that is filled with colors such as green, and light brown or burgundy with tons of different designs and lines on it. There are paisleys, and other flower patterns on it. Then on both sides of the table there are little bowls filled with nuts. That is showing how they are having a game night with food showing how they may be there for a while, and that it is a get together.

0.04: This scene has a high camera angle, showing more of the right side of this scene. It is a theme with these scenes to have the camera angle more towards the right than the left. The filmmakers are showing more of the right because that is where there is more action and a young boy going to join the other three young boys at a cafeteria table. The filmmakers also had very dark lighting allowing shadowing to be on the cafeteria table. The camera is now still and higher up than the other scenes, allowing the viewer to see more details. This production does not seem like it is low budget considering there are already numerous locations.

This scene is shown for young boys who are in a cafeteria at their school. There is a long white table with a gap inbetween the second table which is attached to the first, which is showing the boys school supplies and equipment. Four out of five of the boys are wearing pinnies, three being dark blue and one yellow. The fifth boy is wearing an orange dress shirt. Next to the boy wearing the yellow pinnie is a basketball, implying that the boys were either at practice or gym class. The boy in the orange shirt without the pinny is showing that he was not in the gym class, and is bringing something new to the table, holding a clipboard, implying that he was their coach or keeping track of the score. There are two water bottles on the table which the filmmaker also put to make sure that the viewer is showing that there was just a sporting event, with the basketball on the table and the pinnies. All of the boys joined together at this table and are eating out of a gallon sized Ziploc bag, getting their energy back from what they just burned off at their game. The author is choosing to show this image because they are showing that there can be different people that are doing different things and all come together as one, showing how everyone can bring something new to the table.

0.07: This scene has a very zoomed in camera angle with even darker lighting. The lighter is very dark allowing the audience to focus in on the brightness and colors on the drinks in this scene. The filmmaker just had the middle of the wooden table light, and had the sides of the table dark, where the drinks weren’t. They made the lighting just focused in the middle where the drinks were being cheered so that the viewer could see clearly and focus just on the drinks and not the surrounding. Underneath the drinks being cheered together by people is a plate of food that looks like an appetizer, mostly eaten. It looks like a charcuterie board with crackers, meats, and cheese. This scene is implying that a group went out for drinks and got an appetizer to snack on while drinking and being social. The camera angle was low on purpose so that the viewer could see the drinks being pressed together, and the details of the liquids lifting up along the sides of the glasses, and the ice moving and cherries in the glass.

0.09: This scene has a more zoomed out camera angle, with still very dark lighting. The lighting seems very consistent among all scenes, which are dark and shadow lights. The camera angles are also the same as in when they are higher up and zoomed out. Each time they are zoomed in and out are the same heights. Every scene has also had a table, with something different on it, but all with people.

In this scene there is a little girl with dark brown hair with bangs looking happy and smiling, waiting for her paper plate to get plated with food. There is a tall man next to her with his head not in the frame, but his body with a green zip up sweater, and blue jeans. That man is most likely the girl’s father plating her food because she is too young and short to be able to reach the food in the center of the table. This long table has a yellow table cloth on it, with numerous plates of food including a big salad, pita bread with lettuce, chicken, potatoes, peppers, and tortillas and avocados. The theme of this food seems like Mexican food. The table cloth on the big table and large amounts of food is implying how this is going to be a big dinner, for a lot of people. The paper plates are implying how there are a lot of people that are there and the host is not going to want to do all of the dishes after everyone is done with their meal.

Underneath the table is a bright red rug with green flower patterns on it. There is also another person who looks like the young girl’s mom matching her dad with a green zip up with more of a pattern on it. On the girls jacket, the pattern and texture is like a diamond pattern with each diamond being elevated compared to the lines separating each. The filmmaker made the guy and the girl wear similar colors but different patterns so that the viewer is able to establish the gender of the people by having one material more simple and feminine, compared to the other material being simple and masculine. The young girl is wearing a white long sleeve shirt with a red flower on the top left, which also matches the carpet underneath her.

0.12: This scene has the most going on compared to the other scenes. The camera angle is very wide and high up to show all of the different pieces of this scene. The camera angle is so wide because this scene is showing a craft table, and people doing their own projects. Two guys on the left of this photo are doing school work with big textbooks filled with writing open and underneath a notebook that they are writing in with black pen taking notes. This scene looks like an after school tutoring session or hangout with multiple people. There is a bag of Lays potato chips in the middle of the table that someone playing a board game is eating. The game that he is playing is a wooden tray that is a hexagon shape with blue pieces and two brown pieces. There is another person across with the same game but a red tray on top of a notebook and paper. The filmmaker is showing that there are people that are doing school work because of the textbooks and papers and pens. This is an after school scene with snacks and homework. There is a table with a huge light green, white, and gray board that everyone is working on top of filled with dice, and sharpie markers. This scene is very hectic, and that is why the filmmakers made it a wide view, with dark lighting, and still.

0.14: This scene is also a high view camera angle, with a wide view and dark lighting. There are six adults at an off white table. The camera angle is focusing on the adults’ hands which is to show their gender. The film maker is making it known whether the people are male or female by showing their hands and arms so the viewer can look for things like wedding rings, watches, and clothing. There appears to be three girls and three guys at this business meeting at this table.

This scene is showing a business meeting, which the filmmaker is making extremely clear. The camera is still while the girls and guys hands are moving showing how they are discussing business plans. The business meeting aspect of this scene is known because of the notebooks that are in front of two of the girls, and three of the guys. One girl has nothing in front of her. The notebooks have a spine that is a white spiral, with the cover reading, “Business Plans” with a photo showing numerous hands all joining together in the middle touching, showing how they are all in this together, which is important for business plans. The filmmaker is smart for having that photo of the hands on the cover, and then all of the hands in the shot, showing the correlation that this is a business meeting, and how they are all in the plans together.

One of the guys in a red flannel is actively typing on his laptop, implying that he could be taking online notes about what is being said about the plans, or filling out documents. Next to him is a girl taking notes on a blue note pad with a pencil, which the filmmaker is implying that she too is taking notes. Both of their business plans notebooks are closed. The other members of this meeting have their books closed but have their hands either crossed together or the fists on the table showing how they are actively listening and participating in the conversation. There are purple and blue folders that are holding papers in regards to the plans, which are off to the side on the left, next to a man with a gray shirt on and a gold wedding band on. This scene is showing how all of these people are bringing something to the meeting and have different roles, but are all coming together and making everything work.

0.17: In this scene, the camera angle is wide, with the dark lighting, once again on a table. This table was a darker wood, without a visible carpet underneath. What was underneath this table looks like a pack of water bottles, with the circular plastic pieces connecting each bottle in the pack. The filmmaker wanted to showcase how there was extra supplies under the table if the three people putting together packages needed more supplies. The dark lighting has been consistent throughout each clip, so it has to be what the filmmaker had to work with. That could have been to cut costs. The camera angle is also still in this shot, only one clip had the camera shaking, most likely because that was the most action out of all of these clips.

In this scene, on top of the dark stained wooden table, there are nine visible big Ziploc bags each filled with goods. These goods could be what is on the table which includes, lotions or soaps which are seen in a cardboard box. These lotions or soaps have a white or light green color with a black pump top on it. In the cardboard box there also appears to be neon green socks, and white towels. On the table on the right side, there are three sets of canned goods, assuming that these are canned food products. The filmmakers are showing how these three people are working on this table to show how they are making care packages for people in need of food and hygiene supplies. There is a paper on the right side that is white with black lettering saying, “drive”, so this scene could also be a food drive. The filmmaker makes this scene clear by providing the paper to look at for reference and insight as to why people are filling bags with basic needs for everyday life. Once again, the message being presented is that with each of these tables, there is always something to bring and accomplish.

0.22: This scene has a completely different camera view compared to all of the other scenes. This camera view is straight up and not pointing down at a table. This camera view is full of light with bright green walls, and a table with food very similar to the food at the timestamp at 0.14. On the table was the salad, the bread and the peppers. This scene the filmmakers may have done to extend the scene at 0.14 and make it a full circle ending. This is the exact scene because of the mom wearing the exact green jacket with the diamonds on it, with the little girl in the background. There are also two more people in this scene that were not in it at 0.14. There is a guy with braids in his hair with a gold watch on his left wrist, wearing a fancy brown jacket, with slacks. Then there appears to be an older lady in the background speaking to that man.

In this scene on the left side of the room there is a sign that says “welcome” implying that this dinner is indeed having guests and that the host wanted to welcome those people. This scene may be taking place at a shelter, or even at the food drive, which the filmmaker is implying from that sign, with the various types of people.

The little girl’s mom is seen hugging a woman wearing a burgundy top and skirt, with a lighter pink head wrap on, accompanied with a long gold necklace. The lady in burgundy looks very appreciative and happy to be there with all of that food. This scene is showing how people of all ages can come together and have a meal and talk together. There are no limits of what people can bring to the table or a conversation, and that is what the filmmaker is trying to make clear by showing all different types of tables, that are each accomplishing something great.

0:00-0:10- video starts off in the ocean. Seems like the person in the ocean is super far down, in a whole scuba diving outfit. Slightly eerie, diver is going further down.

0:10-0:12- “camera” is zooming into the person, the person is shining flashlight at “camera”. The “camera” is a shark. It’s about to attack the diver. The sharks mouth looks like it’s about to eat the diver. But, it’s quickly zoomed out and shown that a person is watching it on their phone.

0:12-0:14- Guy, teenager, with dark hair is in the car, drivers side driving with his phone in hand watching the “shark attack” clip that was shown earlier. The guy is shocked and amused at the video. The director is trying to show how he is distracted on his phone by showing the video.  It also looks like the guy is driving in a nice neighorbood.

0:14-0:17- the guy is approaching a stop sign, he is clearly distracted because of his phone, he doesnt realize stop sign is there bc lady is walking and he doesnt notice her and almost hits her. Lady looks like shes in her 20/30’s, obviously shocked because she almost got hit by the car.

0:18-0:20- The lady and the guy are visibility scared and in shock/breathing really heavy because of the potential accident that woulve happened. If the guy didnt have his phone while driving, he wouldve seen the stop sign and the lady and wouldve stoped.

0:20-0:23- black screen with the bold white words saying “The real danger is distracted driving”

0:23-0:25 we are looking at phone sitting in center console in the cup holder, slowly zooming out on the phone

0:26-0:30- same guy is shown driving but with no distractions, both hands on the steering wheel, following directions. Large bold white print says “eyes forward, dont drive distracted”. Obviously trying to show to importance of driving and how you shouldnt drive distracted.

With sound- the video is trying to show that distracted driving is an issue that needs to be fixed. People are constantly on their phones texting or watching videos while driving, and that distraction could cause you to hurt someone or cause another accident. Nothing should distract you while your driving,

This is Pretirement :30:

0:00: At zero seconds the video starts with a woman in what appears to be her house as she’s putting on some sort of jewelry. It looks like she may be getting ready to go out. Maybe she’s going to hang out with friends for the night or possibly going over someone else’s house or maybe going on a date. There are clothes on the edge of her bed possibly signifying she could be in a rush to get things done and there is also a piece of clothing on her door. Her shoes are on the ground but one is not up right.

0:01: At one second the camera cuts and there is now a monster behind the woman. This could be a representation of something bad in her life or a fear she must confront. She is trying to put on an earring that she was fidgeting with at the start of the video. The monster appears to be stalking implying that what ever it is meant to be, clearly is not leaving her alone and is contantly with her.

0:02: The monster opens his mouth at second two probably saying something to the woman. The woman turns around in a way that seems that she is startled that there is a monster there.

0:03: At second three, the woman comes face to face with the monster. The camera is zoomed in so the monster is able to be seen in detail. It looks rough, it is hairy. It looks old. Its eyes pop out of its head. Its teeth are very sharp and disgusting looking. Her looking at the monster could represent her confronting her problem and trying to find a solution.

0:04: The monster now starts talking to the woman. Something is being said that seems somewhat important as the woman appears to actually be listening to what the monster has to say. She actually has a sort of smirk on her face. This smirk makes it seem like she has dealt with this monster before.

0:05: At second five the camera goes behind the monsters back and we see the woman more clearly. Her shirt is wrinkled and doesn’t look taken care of. Her face has wrinkles too representing that she is old. Her face looks as though she is tired and exhausted. She seems to have lots of stress by the way her face looks.

0:07: The camera cuts back to the monster and he appears to be talking still. It seems that whatever point he is trying to get across, he really wants her to understand it. The monster’s facial expression doesn’t seem like one that is happy. His eyes almost seem to represent sadness. His hair is all over the place. This monster could be representing her oldness or elderliness.

0:08: At eight seconds the camera goes reverse shot again and we see the woman opening her mouth. She is finally talking to the monster about whatever he was telling her. It seems like she is giving her side now. The camera using shot/reverse shot technique shows that these characters are having a conversation with each other. Her eyes are popped out a bit more representing she might not be able to believe what the monster is telling her.

0:11-0:12: At eleven seconds after a bit more conversation between the two the monster hands the woman a phone. The phone actually appears to be a iPhone insisting that wherever this monster comes from they have iPhones in their world. On the iPhone there is an eye. The rhetoric from this eye could possibly mean our phones are watching us at all times. The phone is also in a monster case almost suggesting our phones are monsters and it can be a scary place. The phone reads this is pretirement on it. Under that there is text that says “The stage of your life when you need to take charge of your financial future so you can feel more confident about retirement.” So this ad is about feeling comfortable about retirement. Her face earlier when she looked stressed could mean that she does not feel comfortable.

0:14-0:15: The woman appears to be looking into the phone and what the monster had to offer. The monster meanwhile is using what appears to be the woman’s hairdryer in her bathroom. Her facial expression shows she seems to be trying to figure out if what the monster showed her is good for her and is she should go forward with this plan.

0:16: The monster blows the hairdryer on himself. This could possibly be resembling her blowing away any worry she had about retirement. Now that she found her plan it could be like the blowdryer’s breeze.

0:17: The woman opens a door to what appears to be a closet in her house possibly before she leaves the door. She could be getting ready to leave still. She has a sort of smile on her face possibly representing that she is happy with what the monster showed her and she might now use it to help her.

0:18:The monster appears in the closet with his mouth open an seemlingly happy. It seems as though he is trying to entice her or tell her more about the plan to try and get her to follow the plan.

0:19: The woman is now fully dressed looking at the phone and what appears to be leaving her house. The monster is in a walking motion suggesting he is following her. Him following the woman could mean he will do about anything to get her to use this plan. He seems to to be looking out for her and trying to help her.

0:20: The camera goes back to the woman who looks happy. This smile might show she will use the plan and that she is glad the monster told her about it. She appears to be thankful the monster showed her this.

0:21: The monster is smiling and has his tilted down almost to represent him being happy she listened to him. His ears flutter. This shows that he is excited that she is going through with the plan.

0:22: The woman looks at the phone and the build my plan feature. Her finger is hovering over the button that says start. This means she is most likely going to click it and start building her retirement plan.

0:23-0:24: The monster turns into a carpet. His hair flies everywhere in the room. The monster turning into a carpet could mean his job there is done. He doesn’t have to be apart of her imagination anymore as she started the plan.

0:25-0:26: Text comes up on the screen that says “Take charge of your future.” This represents the woman and how she used the phone to start her future plans. The message implies to get started now before it is too late and you no longer have control of your later life.

0:27-0:30: A link pops up for where to go to start this early plan for later in life. The woman flattens out the carpet. This could be done to make it look better. It also shows she cared about the monster and wanted him to be presented well when guests come in the woman’s house. It could also mean she is proud she got rid of the monster.

Belonging Begins With Us

0:00-0:01 there are people gathered around a table all with books, we see it from a birds eye view.

0:01-0:04 two shots of people playing games on a table, both once again shown from above.

0:04-0:05 shown from above, there are kids gathered around a table all eagerly grabbing a snack from the bag on the table. They are at a table that seems like it’s from a school cafeteria. There are sports bottles and a basketball on the table. They are wearing pinnies, which are overshirts used in sports to display what team you are on. This all suggests that these are kids who just got back from playing sports at school during recess, gym, or an after-school sporting event and are now coming back for lunch or maybe a post-game snack.

0:05-0:07 a group of people tap their wine glasses together, so they are probably celebrating something. there is a plate of crackers with bites taken out of them, suggesting that they have been there for a little bit.

0:07-0:09 a little girl at a table with lots of food, which suggests a celebration of some kind. two adults are next to her, one is serving her food, so they are likely her parents.

0:10-0:12 a wooden table, two construction workers. the floor has a sort of covering so they are doing something with that. one man has his hat off and is writing something over the blueprints.

0:12-0:14 people are playing a seemingly complicated board game and writing things down along with it.

0:14-0:15 people are gathered around a table with laptops, notebooks, and papers that say “business plan” so clearly, they are in a business meeting of some sort.

0:15-0:16 two people are playing ping pong, there is a third person with a paddle, they are probably taking turns playing.

0:16-0:20 two people exchanging goods over a table. to the left is a box of clothes and to the right are boxes of cans, and a paper that says, “canned food drive”. So, this is a canned food drive.

0:20-0:24 This is the first scene not shown from above. there are multiple people around a table with lots of food, and a welcome sign to the left, so this is a welcome back party. It could also be a religious gathering because of the cross hung up in the background. The woman in the center of the screen in the purple shirt looks surprised to see someone, and they hug, so they are probably old friends who haven’t seen each other in a while, or perhaps one of them is the one being welcomed back

0:24-0:30 the text “belonging begins with us” shows up on screen, suggesting that this is a psa for welcoming people and making them feel belonging, which would fit the overall theme of people in a group working cooperatively.

with sound, the narrator explains that no matter what skills you have, you bring something to the table, reiterating the idea of belonging to a group. at the end they say “learn how much you can strengthen your community” so this was clearly a psa about belonging to a community of some sort and feeling a connection within that community.

Visual Rewrite—TheGamer

Marcus :30

0:00- Start off with an African American man with dreads. I’m guessing he is around the early to mid-20s based on his body size. The camera is framed behind getting a wide view giving the view the perpective of standing there behind. He seems to be holding a basketball in his left hand, wearing a yellow top and grey jeans with red Jordans. He seems to be looking off into the football field, but he’s on the other side of the fence, holding it with his right arm. The fence is black and taller than him. The field seems to be green, but you can also see where the baseball field is in its dried-up sand. In the far background, you can see the trees that lead into the forest. Continuing in the background, you can see cars that are blurred in the back and also a building. You can see the pole that projects light onto the field when it’s dark in the background as well. So it seems that he’s at field that could be located at a school based on the surrounding. With his posture it look like he is remising the days he used to play or maybe when he used to watch the game.

0:01- The camera is switching to a close-up view of the man, and we see that he is holding a football in his left hand. He also has a silver chain around his neck. He also wears a beard. And in the background, we can see a pole, a brick wall, and pavement next to it. It looks he imaginging the games that would or use to occur when he used to watch it.

0:02-0:04- We can see the full face of the man and that he has ear rings, and his hair is also tied back. He is still staring into the distance at the field, and the camera is capturing his full side profile now. We can guess that this field means a lot to him or that it holds lots of memorys. The way they pan the camera showing him gripping the fence gives the feeling of him wanting to hop in the field and play. We can see the roof of the building in the background.

0:04-0:07- We are giving him two images, and both of them show him who I’m guessing is Marcus. In the picture to the left, we can see that he is wearing Hardaway Jersey number 4, and it shows a younger Marcus im guessing when he used to play for the school. Hardaway sound like the name of a school of college but in this situtation I can tell that this looks like a school. We can see that he has no hair in the picture and barely any facial hair. In the background, we can see a brick wall and his shadow on it. There also still pictures shown they dont seemed framed just photos that seem to be taken early 2000’s based on the vintage look. On the picture on the right, we can see him wearing the same jersey this time with the helmet and pants, which are both white with a red stripe on them. We can see him jumping over the defender holding the football, so I’m guessing he is a running back. The defender is wearing all white with black and blue gloves with the Under Armour logo on them. It looks like Marcus is jumping over him, and he is falling, trying to drag him down.It seem that the two pictures are two different seasons becuase the numbers on jersey is different. The picture on the right seem to show a highlight play when hes jumping over the defender.

0:08-0:10-It shows him being interviewed based on where the camera is pointed and where he is looking, and it also tells us his full name and that he is a professional athlete displayed on the screen. We see that he is talking to someone and using his hands to explain something that he is saying. In the background, we can see that he is in the gym or weight room of the school because we see brick walls and weight equipment around him.

0:10-0:11-We get the same angle of the camera pointing upwards at his hand, but now we can see his full upper body, including his face and torso, and on his left hand, we see he has a ring on his ring finger, its dark gold and light gold on the edges. We can say that maybe he is married, or maybe his graduation ring from high school, or maybe just for fashion.

0:11-0:12- We see him throwing the football in the distance, and the camera is recording this from his back. We can only see him throwing the ball in the field but from where the camera is angled we can see if hes throwing at anyone or just to see how far he throws it. We can see from the distance that the field is long, there’s a little building that is red, and we can see the field goal post. What we can tell by form is that hes not a quarter back and from the pictures too that he might be a wide recieveror running back. There is also a tree there as well.

0:12-0:14-The camera is pointed from the front now, and we can see that he is next to the field goal post, so I’m guessing he is trying to throw the ball very far. We can see a building in the background, a fence, the scoreboard, and more fences. We also see many poles illuminating the field. We see that the singular building has a red-orange stripe on the side of it.

0:14-0:16- We can see he is now back in the interviewing room, and now the camera is close up to his face, only showing his face and shoulders, and we can see him point to the side of his head. He still has his chain on him and the same yellow top. In the back, we still see the weight for lifting and the same cream colored wall and red strip going along the wall.

0:16-0:18- We can see Marcus lifting up two kids around the ages of 4–8 based on their height. There is one boy and one girl, and they are both holding one basketball each, and Marcus is holding them up with both hands. He’s wearing a gray top and black pants. The girl is wearing a pink top and light blue jeans, and the boy is wearing a green top and light brown pants. It seems to be in a basketball court because we see the bleachers and the basketball hoop in the background, and it seems to be Marcus’s school basketball court because we see the logo of the Hartaway Hawks on the wall.

0:18-0:19- We see Marcus lifting up the boy, and we see him dunking the ball into the net. The boy has blue Nike shoes on too and a mini afro.

0:19-0:20- Marcus is shown hugging a woman close to him; she is also African American, and she has dreads on her head and is wearing a blue top.

0:20-0:23- We are shown all of the family; we see Marcus and the woman who was just hugging her earlier; she’s holding the boy we saw; and the little girl is sitting next to her. I’m guessing that is Marcus’s mother, and his father is next to her. Sitting next to him, we see a man who could be maybe another family member, maybe Marcus’ brother.

0:23-0:24- We can see the little boy in a close-up frame, and he is reaching out over a ledge with his right hand out. He’s also wearing a gray top now.

0:24-0:26- The camera is framed in the middle, where the family is all sitting close to each other facing the camera, and we see Marcus holding a football and the brother giving the little boy a lollipop.

0:26-0:30- We see a close-up view of Marcus, and he is looking into the distance, smiling, and the screen cuts to a white screen (the end credit) and it says, Love, Your Mind, Find Mental Health Resources and Love Your Mind Today.” HUNTSMAN MENTAL HEALTH INSTITUTE, Ad Council.

To sum it all up, I’m guessing this video was about Marcus battling his mental health, and this video was about him explaining his story, everything about it, and how he overcame it.

start with hope

0:00- starts off with an African American man, older, dressed casually named Joseph sitting in front of a greenscreen. the name is something that ends up popping on the screen. The video was being recorded from the side

0:01-0:03- seems to be talking about something, his location of where he is from pops up on the screen, being Washington D.C.

0:04-0:06- the camera changes its angle to being directly on his face showing his facial expression and focusing on his directly nothing else. he is seated and has his arms forward in front of him as he is telling a story. specifically seeing his facial expressions given to the camera showing he is serious.

0:11- the screen changes from Jospeh telling the story behind a green screen to now standing up and there is a purple light behind him. on the right side of the screen there seems to be a white light shining on Joseph as he is talking about something. he is motioning with his hands, his full body is not shown just the top.

0:12-0:16- Joseph is telling a story with some sort of passion because he is using his hand gestures at all times to express himself. the story seems to be about himself as his facial demeanor also seems very passionate about what he is talking about.

0:17-0:19 it goes back to the green screen this time from a side point of view again rather than face forward. In the screen he is staring to the side and seeming to be deep in thought, maybe some sort of sadness or disappointment.

0:20-0:23- the screen goes back to the purple screen, this time with his full body showing on the screen. the camera starts zooming in fully from a wide camera view to slightly narrowing, but not too close up.

0:24 it goes back to the direct camera shot of Joseph in the middle of the screen centered on his face behind the green screen. This time words pop up on the screen. “HOPE” is written behind him and the words “when we learn the power of” is right in front of the screen across his lower face. This was to emphasize what the video is about and to remind people in a way what is important.

0:25- the words “HOPE” pop out in clear green letters in front of Joseph and right under is “recovery is possible”. placing hope in the middle starts making people think about things that are worth having to be in a good place whether in addiction or not, it could even be thinking about helping someone else.

0:27-0:29 It ends with the purple background and Joseph’s front full screen with his whole body showing standing up. there are the words “find out how at startwithhope.com” placed right in front of him as well as the management behind the scenes.

with sound: The sound explaining everything going on gave the video a better understanding. there was nothing in the beginning that gave a hint on what the video was about. he was talking about his connection to substance abuse in the green cuts and when it went to the purple he seemed to be preaching about poetry and how to save his life. Adding that poetry saved his life was to emphasize how he had something to be “hopeful” on because he felt as if he had something in him.

Lung cancer

This is an ad depicting the dangers of lung cancer, each match and the lighting of that match is intended to signify each time this person smokes.

.0 seconds a dark screen

.01 the dark screen is becoming illuminated and I see a semi realistic render  of  human lungs

.02-.03 There seem to be little hairs on the lungs. That reveal themselves to be matchsticks and one of them is burning. I guess it signifies the pain of lung cancer, every time you breath it feels like fire in your chest, or more accurately each time this person smokes.

.05 we linger on the singular burning match stick as smoke billows from it.

.06 the lungs have turned from looking at each one small section of the ling which highlighted the singular match stick to include both sacks of the lung, both of which have small fires from their match adornment.

.09 we see several more matches burn, this was achieved through a zoomed in scrolling shot along the lung, and we pull out so see that a large chunk on the top and bottom left are burning

.13 the entire lung is now burning and has begun to decay from the fire. The entire lung has blackened with large amounts of fire still covering the lung.

:15 some matches have fallen out of the lung and one of them has fallen on the ground. The match that fell was still lit and the camera followed it to the ground.

:18 the match falls over and once again we are greeted by the burning lungs, this time in the same dark lighting as the beginning.

:21 the lights gradually become brighter as we are revealed to be in a bright white room with several windows so that we may see the sun outside and the lungs now have the matches intact. perhaps the person is about to be saved from their torment. perhaps they can finally either stop smoking or take solace in knowing their getting some sort of treatment.

:24 and in this room there is an mri machine which I guess would be helpful in detecting lung cancer, we get to this machine through a transition in which we pass the lung. oue person is going to get screened for cancer using an mri machine, in a sience being saved by it as evident by the bright color change.

30 and our last shot is the mri machine with a graphic saying learn more at SaveBytheScan.org

Watching with sound made me realize they had a different intent in showing the lungs covered in matches as it pertained to smoking and lung cancer.  This ad only really works with the voice over, as the visuals themselves are confusing, and the sound of the striking match really hammers the point that this ad links to smoking and not breathing as I suggested when I watched this ad without sound. The narrator’s almost creepy whispery voice adds an air of spookiness to the ad. The true since of foreboding is only present with the vocals. And the part about detecting the cancer early is also integral to the ad.

PTSD Claims – TheGamer 2.0

There are trials where patients take MDMA (ecstasy’s active ingredient) while talking about trauma to promote more positive and less scary associations with the events. In animal trials, rats are lightly tortured and then injected with a protein that will stop the enzymes in their brains from being able to form memories of it. Some of the most interesting research involves beta-blockers, drugs that suppress the adrenaline response.”

This is an example of an illustrative claim because it goes into the details and paints a picture of what is occurring. The statement mentions animal trials that took place and were developed aimed at relieving symptoms of PTSD.

“Some of the most interesting research involves beta-blockers, drugs that suppress the adrenaline response. In one small study, trauma victims given beta-blockers within six hours of the incident had a 40 percent lower likelihood of developing PTSD.”

This is an example of a factual claim because it says that in one small study, trauma victims administered beta-blockers within six hours of the incident experienced a 40 percent lower likelihood of developing PTSD, showing that the drug they are testing is doing well and has a very promising response and effect to fixing this problem.

“Brunet runs trials where patients take beta-blockers while talking about trauma, so their reactions are weakened and then presumably lessened the next time it comes up, so far with promising results.”

This is an example of an illustrative claim because it gives a description of what is going on and makes it so that the reader is able to make a visual description of what is happening. It says, “Brunet conducts trials in which patients undergo beta-blocker treatment while discussing trauma. This process makes it so that their reaction is slowed, showing that the effects are good and working, which will result in a positive outcome.

“But as of yet, “pharmacologically, there’s no magic bullet,” he says. And “we’re much less effective at treating more complex PTSD” with traditional therapy. “Treatment offered vets might be less effective than what’s offered to civilians with trauma. With veterans, there are important concomitant issues.”

This is an example of a Comparative and Attributive claim in which, according to the statement, pharmacologically, there is no exact solution. The effectiveness of traditional therapy in treating PTSD is described as lower compared to simpler cases. The treatment provided to veterans may be less efficacious compared to that offered to civilians experiencing trauma due to the presence of significant accompanying issues. This is a perfect example of a comparative claim in which the veterans and civilians are put into the same categories.

“Like traumatic brain injury. Researchers posit that TBI can make the brain more vulnerable to PTSD, or that it can exacerbate its symptoms of exhaustion, agitation, confusion, headaches.”

This is an example of a categorical claim that elaborates on the relationship between the TBI and PTSD and how they both share a similarity together by sharing something similar which is having an impact on people’s health. It also gives a few symptoms which is a perfect example of a categorical claim.

“They’re not positive about that, or about whether TBI makes PTSD harder to treat. James Peterson’s post-injection chill-out wore off after a month, faster than it does for other patients—maybe because of his TBI. Maybe not. Either way, as for TBI, well, “there is no cure,” says David Hovda, director of UCLA’s Brain Injury Research Center and an adviser to the Department of Defense.”

This is an example of a credibility claim for this statement because it shows a factual claim directed from David Hovda and it identifies the quote and the who it is being directed from as well. Maybe not. Either way, as for TBI, well, “there is no cure,” says David Hovda.

Casual Argument- Calm&Patient

Using mindfulness techniques isn’t really an option for soccer players when making decisions about penalty kicks or pivotal moments that can change the outcome of a match. While penalty kicks need physical skill, the mental aspect of the game is just as important. Many times it determines the success or failure of the kick. By including mindfulness practices into their training routine, players can significantly enhance their performance and decision-making abilities, leading to greater success on the field.

Penalty kicks bring on pressure and require players to maintain focus, composure, and confidence in the middle of the pressure of expectations from the crowd. Mindfulness techniques such as controlled breathing, body scan exercises, and visualization are important tools for players to regulate their emotions, center themselves, and prepare themselves before taking a penalty kick.

Research has shown that mindfulness interventions can improve cognitive function, attention control, and emotional regulation which are all important for making quick decisions during penalty kicks. By developing  present moment awareness players can navigate around performance anxiety, alleviate self doubt, and sharpen their focus. This allows the players make accurate and strategic decisions about where to kick with better chance and confidence.

Despite the proven benefits of mindfulness for penalty kick situations, including these practices in soccer training programs brings up challenges. These include resistance from coaches, limited time for mental skills training, and doubts about the effectiveness of mindfulness in sports. To get through these challenges, coaches and trainers have to prioritize the development of mental skills as a part of player preparation. This would inckude dedicating time and resources to include mindfulness practices in regular training sessions and creating a supportive environment that encourages players to use mindfulness as a valuable tool to improve performance.

Soccer players have to practice mindfulness before facing penalty kicks. Players can develop  mental strength, focus, and decision making skills needed to perform well under stress.  This gives them the ability to support their team by including mindfulness in their training routine.  Players who practice mindfulness are able to make penalty kicks with confidence. This might lead them to get to new performance levels that can influence the game’s outcome.
