A slight change in the sun’s position could cause
the Earth to become Uninhabitable for all life.

The sun’s importance has been ingrained in minds since the dawn of time, leaving the collective understanding that the sun was essentially the “provider of life.” The sun provides us with solar energy, heat, and a light source that continuously supports the further development of life and production as we know it. With the sun providing us with so many benefits, without its energy to provide sustenance, there can be disastrous consequences. If the sun stopped energy production, all life would die, meaning that all organisms using the energy (through photosynthesis and solar respiration) would decrease. Since the majority of living organisms on Earth make up the base of our food chain, eventually all dependent species will be negatively impacted and die out.

From old discovered text, Humanity has recognized in cultures in Egypt, Greece, and Japan the intense role of the sun in sustaining life. In the article “How Ancient Cultures Explained Eclipses” written by Roger Culver, states that “In many cultures throughout human history, the sun was seen as an entity of supreme importance, crucial to their very existence.” The sun’s role since the 14 century B.C.E. (Before the common era) was providing heat, warmth, and sunlight to aid the production of plants and crops. The sun was undoubtedly worshiped by masses of people like the Egyptians and the Maya, believing that this life-giving force was a divine power that controlled survival. Worshipers had the right idea about the benefits of the sun and just decided to acknowledge and honor it differently. That being said, what ultimately depends on the benefits of the sun? Plants! and let’s get into why that is.

The evolution of plant life has been the main support system that keeps human existence rolling and constantly expanding over time. Plants are essential resources to the earth because of photosynthesis. Plants take in carbon dioxide and provide needed nutrients and CO2, to produce clean breathing air for humans and any other species to survive. Plants and their roots are important in supporting nutrients for soil by dying. In the article “The plant-soil Relationship” written by Martin, J. B. (n.d.) states: “Plant roots help to prevent erosion, and when plants die, they become the raw material for worms, insects, and microbes to build the nutrient-rich humus that supports robust food webs and promotes good soil structure.” (J.B). If the sun was too far or close by 3-7.5 million kilometers, the Earth would leave the habitual zone for all living processes to occur and the repercussions of this would be dire for everything else dependent on plants. Constant production of life forces would disappear from Earth due to the disturbance in the chain of life and cause a domino effect if the sun’s position were to change.

Calculated energy rates from the sun have been reported to differ slightly on a day-to-day basis. Different energy rates can affect the distribution of how much energy is received on the Earth’s surface and where. If the solar energy output changes, The production of clouds will be disrupted in the atmosphere and this will affect how water distribution is conducted as well. Because the water cycle is fully supported by the sun’s energy, a change in energy production would ultimately affect the process of the water cycle. In the article “Solar Energy and the Water Cycle” posted by Earth Labs wrote “The water cycle is driven primarily by the energy from the sun. This solar energy drives the cycle by evaporating water from the oceans, lakes, rivers, and even the soil.”. This statement supports how important the sun is in supporting how water gets around on Earth. With the sun too far, there won’t be enough solar energy for the water cycle to occur. If the sun was too close, there would be too much energy and heat that results in rapid evaporation, essentially all the water would boil off the earth leaving the oceans like the Sahara Desert.

The heat being received initially from the sun would increase exponentially causing the ocean’s temperature to rise. The rise in ocean temperatures would cause aquatic life to deplete especially if species need certain temperatures to thrive and reproduce. The article “Ocean Warming Is One of the Big Climate Change Question Marks” written by the U.S. Government of Accountability Office on November 30, 2023, states: “Marine heatwaves can stress and kill marine life and disrupt ecosystems. For example, they can cause coral bleaching.” Some species will be forced to migrate into new areas to continue reproduction and this could lead to more “invasive” species and overpopulation. Increased temperature will also cause coral bleaching, which means the coral will start to get rid of the algae that create their color resulting in the death of reefs and biospheres that are dependent on them.

Negative effects on humans due to increased temperature can be heat-related illnesses such as rashes, exhaustion, and cramps. Dehydration would be a very common occurrence along with poor air quality that could trigger underlying complications within the body and cause the immune system to become challenged. The intense increase in temperature would make day-to-day activities limited due to essentially having a constant heat lamp beaming down on every part of the planet. If we were to be reptiles, this would be perfect for survival however I will leave that discussion to the theorists.

In conclusion, the change in the overall distance of the sun’s position would undoubtedly disturb how the earth has already adapted to be, causing rapid changes in ecosystems, habitats, and biomes. The world, which was once a piece of floating compacted rock, has adapted an accepted distance from the sun and has physically gone through evolutional changes to retain and successfully continue the production of new life at every turn. The Earth nurtures the Plants which produce oxygen and nutrients to sustain human life, aquatic life, animals, geographical landmarks, and so much more. A change in the sun’s position would essentially make Earth food on the stove. If you make it too hot (the sun being too close to the Earth), water will evaporate leading the majority of specimens dependent on it to die off. The Earth would become a constantly overheated rock that continues to burn off anything remaining on the surface, survival rates will reduce and force new adaptation. However, if you make it too cold you’ll be left with frozen oceans and depleting temperatures that would eventually turn the Earth into the next Pluto.

PTSD Claims- Coffeelover03

I had Section 19:

“ A 2000 VA budget crunch led to her clinic’s contract being terminated—and her husband’s disability pay ended when he killed himself in 2001.”

This is a casual claim. This is showing the cause of Dannas budget problem led to her contract being taken away from the clinic and the disability pay that was being received from her husband was also cut out because he had killed himself. So unfortunately if he was no longer living there was no disability pay given. So this is a cause and effect example for casual claims.

“Danna’s husband was checking into inpatient psych treatments for almost three weeks at a time, she says, only to come back to his now-crazy wife and “within three seconds” be re-exposed to someone in the emotional state that he was in when he left.

This is a ethical and moral claim. It is showing that because of Dannas husband checking into these Psych treatments, he had then committed suicide as claimed in the article. She was left without his presence and she stated that all she is now basically is the crazy wife. So after his death she was exposed to that same emotional state he was in before he passed, and now currently she is in that state because of his death. So now because of her depression she is considered one of those “ Crazy wives” who’s husband died and had nothing to do since his death because she is trying to deal with depression because of this.

The VA already is footing some $600 million worth of PTSD treatment for veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan** in 2013, via hundreds of medical centers and smaller outpatient clinics, plus 232 vet centers that offer general readjustment services.

This is a factual claim. It is showing us that $600 million dollars worth of PTSD treatment is being created for the veterans who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. It also tells us that there are clinics around the United States or help out these veterans with PTSD. This is factual because it provides evidence in numbers from resources to help us understand the claims being made.

Casual Argument- Coffeelover03

Technology and Its Causes

Ever wondered why technology evolved over time? I always did. I always wondered who was the cause behind this idea. Technology over time did increase in its ways. Ways that we never knew technology would evolve. For instance ever seen the movie called I-Robot. That one movie starring Will Smith where the robots take over the United States. Yeah, kind of sounds similar to us today. Where are in a state where currently robots are being created to take over our jobs. Some people might think this is truly a blessing, but to me? Oh I feel like this is just a disaster waiting to eventually happened. Thought not only technology is evolving like this it is also making us weaker. Technology makes the mind weak, and studies show that there is more screen time rather than a hand with a book in it. Or children more on the tablets, and phones rather than getting to make friends outside on a play ground.

According to the GFC global research it stated, “ For many people, it’s become a habit to reach for a smartphone any time they have a free moment, and this behavior could be making our loneliness worse. A University of Arizona study supported this idea, finding that smartphone dependence predicted a higher rate of loneliness and depression in young adults.” As you can tell from research at a university in Arizona they conducted the fact that screen time is more likely to cause depression in young adults rather than depression being caused by other things other than technology. I can understand for the point of view in which they are discussing in this article. As an example social media has caused a big turn around for many people. Social Media was seen to be a big problem as the leading cause of suicides and bullying. Though no one really understands, and really cares until something happened because of this situation. Everyday more and more children are victims of this situation. Children ages 13 and up are being hurt and taunted because of technology its self. Therefore that is one of the major reasons why technology makes us weak in todays society.

Technology has its advances was well. Though there are more troubled causes than these great advances. Some of these advances are like GPS, or when you are using google to try and research something for an essay you have due in a couple of days, google is as easy as 1,2,3. It can help you cook as well when you want to look up recipes instead of taking a trip to barns and nobles looking in the cooking isle for the next 1 hour of your life trying to create the perfect pasta dish for your in laws when they come over. Technology can also be used to save lives such as researching on how to perform CPR on someone. Also showing how to save someone who is choking or even finding the nearest hospital. Sometimes we can’t do any of this without technology. Though as I stated as many as there are advances there is also these troubled causes.

In most cases we find that technology does make the mind weak. I feel like in my perspective this makes us more less educated than education its self. People don’t even go attend school in person anymore because they have that option on line. People don’t shop in the malls anymore because that option is also online as well. Things just aren’t how they used to be anymore without technology. As parents, sisters, brothers, family, and much more us together as a community need to start putting in word to limit this technology. Our children are going to grow up thinking technology is the key to everything. According to the National Library of medicine it stated, “ Children’s heavy reliance on screen media has raised serious public health issues since it might harm their cognitive, linguistic, and social-emotional growth. This study examines the effects of screen time on many developmental domains and covers management and limitation techniques for kids’ screen usage.” People are going to believe that technology will create success. Technology wouldn’t create success, but it can be successful. We can only make our selves successful. We should be using our minds more than looking to technology for answers.

As a student at Rowan University technology is used in my everyday life. I need to use it for homework. I need to use it for class. I need to use it to get to school, and reach my classes. I’m using technology currently to create this argument. Though I wouldn’t let the technology do all my work. Technology should be used as a reference. Its okay to have a reference to help you navigate through life. Though it can be an addiction. Mainly addictions are hard to get over because you are trying to pull yourself away from something you might not be able to get rid of because you were so attached. Before you do try to pull yourself away try to stop and think what else is something I can get attached to the way I was with technology. Always try to find a hobby to help as a distraction. Distractions are best than addictions. Don’t let technology become an addiction just let it be used as a reference.

Visual Rewrite — Holistic25

(0-1 seconds)
The video starts out in an aesthetically pleasing setting, presumably in the woods. There are lovely trees that stand like skyscrapers in comparison to the deck shown, as well as the two houses in the background. Slightly barren yet showing signs of color, its skinny trunks stand tall bearing green and orange leaves.

This opening shot magnifies the nature in the setting. It resembles to the naked eye that nature is larger than life, or in this case, nature being larger than a woman clothed in a purple dress with a white sweater and a large, shiny necklace gazing off in the distance on her deck.

Following the gaze of the photo lens, through the trees, one can make out a setting of the sun illuminating the lower left part of the screen. The rest of the sky is not yet dark, the setting sun giving the rest of the sky a gray color. The temperature appears to be ambient given the trees and leaves showing signs of autumn on the horizon, as well as the manner in which this woman is dressed. Her knees down to her ankles are exposed, but the temperature seems to be crisp enough to have a simple, white sweater on.

In the multitude of colors stemming from the opening picture, when the viewer shifts their eyes downward (which is not where one would place its eyes on given the camera has the viewer looking toward the sky), there are other notable colors. There are smaller trees, which are strikingly more barren than the taller, skyscraper-like trees that laugh from above. These smaller trees, that appear so brittle they can be snapped by a elementary schooler, show some signs of color producing a light green color, like that of a pear.

As well, on the beautiful deck, there stands flower pots on each corner of the deck portrayed to the viewer. One consisted of yellow flowers and the other purple/pinkish flowers. The purple/pinkish flowers stand out in contrast with the other colors nature produces in this shot (the leaf’s, the sun, the wood, etc)

The deck the woman is standing on consists of beautifully crafted pine wood, with its khaki color standing out. The deck seems festive in that there’s a black roof that appears to cover approximately half of the deck. There are light bulbs hanging from the side of the roof in which the image is shown. The deck is enclosed by another fence. The fence is as tall as the railing of the pine wood that makes up the deck.

On the deck stands a middle aged woman. Her hair is the color of autumn, a lovely natural red color of hair. She is wearing glasses and dressed nicely, her necklace standing out over the purple dress she is wearing. Her white sweater provides a brightness to her figure.

(2-4 seconds)
The video changes positions immensely, now focusing on the woman previously described on the deck. A closeup of her face is all the viewer is privy to now. Her hair color was not as noted as before, probably due to the sun’s light hitting at such an angle that it appeared red. In fact, it’s blonde with highlights. Her hair is long enough that it just touches her shoulders.

She has glasses with black trim and clear lenses. Her face is accompanied by makeup. Her lips are the color of her dress, purple. The closeup on her is so intricate that the viewer can see a mole under her left nostril.

The shiny necklace described in the previous segment now can be seen much clearer. It is a white-silver color that consists of beads. What was described before as a white sweater doesn’t appear as such anymore, but rather a white suit jacket.

This woman’s face appears as if she’s a middle aged woman, about 40, who has have some Spanish descent. The focus is on her gaze which appears to be interested in something. Her gaze appears innocent, but also interested.

(5 seconds – 6 seconds)
Now, the image is of the same woman, but in a different setting. She is now seated on a chair that has chipped painting over her left shoulder. The rest of the paint of the chair visible is white.

Over her left shoulder is a couch. The color is grey-white. The coach appears to be family sized.

Now, this snapshot is a closeup of the woman mid stomach and up. The only noticeable thing that can be seen about her that wasn’t described was the fancy design on her purple dress. The design starts out at the neck with small, round white circles. As you take your eye’s downward on the dress, there are white lines in the form of half circles for about 2 inches.

The next part of the design that takes shape is thicker, purple lines that run vertically for about 5 inches until the pattern starts to repeat itself around the breast. The white circle pattern continues.

Also noted is the text that appears on the screen. We now know the name of this lady, Adaris Rivera, who’s described as a Mental Health Advocate in text under her name. The shot, and the way she’s sitting professionally in the chair indicates she’s being interviewed for a mental health related cause.

In the distance, above her right shoulder, is a painting that is too blurry to be explained. What the viewer can tell is the fact that the painting has a lot of colors going on. It appears as if it’s a painting of a city as there seem to be a plethora of small houses with a blue sky and white clouds.

Above Adaris’s left should in the distance is a wall clock. The outside circle is made up of a gray color that is about 3 inches wide. The hands on the clock are also gray, accompanied by a white background. The time can’t quite be made out for certainty but it appears to be roughly 3:40 pm.

The room looks like it has the effect of natural sunlight coming in, mainly hitting the painting above Adaris’ right shoulder and white wall below that.

Also, there is a case of flowers sticking out to Adaris’ left that are the same color of her dress. The flowers are purple, but a touch lighter than the purple of her dress, taking on a slightly pinkish color as well.

Before it was noted that Adaris had a silver-white beaded, shiny necklace. This is still true, but now the viewer can see the entire necklace from her frontside. The first second of the advertisement showed her from a distance making it look like the necklace ended in a cross dangling from the tip. Now, the viewer can clearly see that it is only a beaded necklace being tied in a knot around mid-breast and not a cross design. Presumably, this was done, because the necklace was too large in the first place.

(7 seconds – 8 seconds)

The image is capturing a closeup of the flowers previously described — just the tips, portraying a full, bright purple-pink color. The screen is cut into two triangles. The lower triangle shows the flowers, while darker and out of focus half is Adaris’ necklace, dress and the arms of her white suit jacket.

(10 seconds)

Adaris is shown in a different setting with a different outfit. In this image, her makeup and hair are done as previously described. You can now see her fingernails, which are that of a purple-pink color.

She is wearing a dress that is black and white. The background is all black accompanied by a big, white flower design. The dress doesn’t end at her shoulders but has short sleeves to it.

At her left wrist, she is wearing a bracelet that is white-silver beaded. This hand also possesses a wedding ring that has a white diamond appearing larger than the rest of the ring.

There is one earring showing that appears to be a small, white hoop earring, only visible on her right side. She is not shown at an angle in this visual, rather from the front, but her hair blocks the left earring so that it’s not visible.

Adaris is in the seated position, happily invested in a writing activity. She’s holding a pencil in her right hand, but it looks unsteady. This may be because her right arm appears to be in a cast. Specifically, her right wrist down to her pinky finger.

The journal she is writing in has an orange cover with white pages. It appears as if she’s been writing in that journal for some time as she seems to only have a quarter left of pages to write in.

She is situated back on the deck shown in the opening scene, and it is clear as day that the season is fall. The reddish/brown leaves are strikingly clear as they hang just above the side rail of the deck.

Adaris is seated in an elaborate chair. One that is of all black metal that is designed to have small rectangular openings all throughout its design. The design is consistent in these small rectangles that are embedded in the thicker metal enclosing. This chair is unique in that it has an overhead that extends over where Adaris’ head is positioned, like a sun roof would. It stops once it is perpendicular to the bottom cushion. The overhead is still made up of a small, black metal, rectangular design as the rest of the chair is so the sunlight still shines through.

This seat is accompanied by beige cushions. One propping up Adaris from underneath and the other laying on her backside. Plus, a small beige side pillow next to her right side for comfort.

Seconds 11 – 13

The closeup is now of Adaris’ notebook. Although she had a pencil in hand, it is now clear she had been drawing as opposed to writing.

The picture is a friendly one encompassing hope, joy, love, faith, and family. In the drawn picture, there is a woman in the middle with each arm lovingly around the shoulders of two young gentlemen bringing them close to her. Each of the three figures in this drawing has smiles on their faces.

The male around the lady’s right arm has dark, straight, brown hair. The other male has the same complexion, but with hair styled and this man appears taller. Both are wearing polo shirts.

The lady in the middle appears to be the mother of these two young gentlemen. Her face appears a little bit older and she seems to be embracing these two as a mother. There’s a light blue ribbon on the neck collar of this woman’s pink dress.

Above all, what gives this drawing such an intricate theme such as faith is the lightly shaded cross that echoes into the background just above the mothers head. The cross also extends out horizontally across the two boys’ heads on each side. On the vertical component of the cross, above the mothers head, reads the word “faith.”

An even more intricate detail is wings faded into the background below the elbows of the two young men on either side of the picture. Given what we know, this advertisement being about mental health, and that these two young men have yet to be shown in person, it makes the viewer wonder after seeing such a holy depiction, whether these two impactful young men are physically alive.

Seconds 14 and 15
There is now a physical visual following this drawing of Adaris, of presumably, her two sons. Adaris is at the center in a green dress, with each arm hugging her sons, bringing them close in. There is still a cast on Adaris’ right wrist and hand. It is around her last two fingers of her right hand. Adaris is smiling wide with joy.

The son to her right has long, wavy, black hair. His hairline is distributed straight down the middle, allowing his hair to part naturally on each side of his head. He is wearing glasses that have dark lenses. He is smiling with joy. He is wearing a red flannel with navy blue stripes running vertically on the shirt. There are breast pockets on each breast.

The other son has a bald fade with straight, black hair down the middle that has not been altered. He is wearing a white long sleeved polo, also with breast pockets on both sides. This son has a light beard with a mustache that doesn’t attach to the sides to form a goatee. This son has his ears pierced, only being visible on his left ear. He has a big piercing on the bottom tip, and a smaller one just above that on the outer lobe as well.

This real, physical image, was clearly a reenactment of Adaris’ drawing with her and her two sons.

Seconds 15 – seconds 18
Adaris is opening what formerly looks like a shoe box turned into a memory box. Upon opening the lid, on the inner part of the lid there’s a picture of Adaris, her 2 sons when they were children, and her husband. They are all smiling, posing for a picture from the neck up. The picture is taken outside in the manner of a Christmas card type photo.

There’s only the briefest snapshot of what’s in the box, but when you pause the frame you can make out only 2 things. First, a box for a cooling lip mask. Perhaps more importantly, a small baggie that says, “just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.”

There are many interpretations of what the saying could mean to the video. Perhaps it was nothing at all or it was shown to resemble the theme of family, hope, and love in this advertisement. Maybe it was a reference to the father who may have passed away.

Seconds 19-25

This advertisement shows a multitude of people in multiple different images in this span. However, the theme was the same. It was all women who were shown working as a group with joy. The theme seemed to be giving as all the women were smiling. The series of quick clips of the women starts with green, white, yellow, and pink balloons on the deck that the entire advertisement started out on. Adaris was shown as one of these women, but in the light of a creator. Like the founder of what the ensuing images all stood for.

The consistent thing among these women is that they all have white boxes that the camera is focusing on that contain uplifting pictures, such as butterfly’s encaptioned with “mental health.” Another sticker reads (on the white shoe box), “grow through what you go through” with flowers and leaves surrounding the slogan.

The series of quick flashes highlight these women holding white shoe boxes with positive mental health slogans. It ends with the woman gathering in a circle posing for a photo, smiling and holding up their white boxes on Adaris’ deck. This moment seems to be momentous for Adaris as it seems to be a launch of her mental health company, inspiring other mothers from a basic idea she had done with her family, and that was stowing memories, positive sayings, and pictures into a shoebox to uplift her spirits.

Seconds 26-28

Adaris is shown leaning on the shoulder of her eldest son. Adaris eyes are closed, and she is in the outfit the film started her with having on. Adaris is smiling and looks relieved to be embraced by her son who is actively gazing off in the distance with his arm around her mother.

The eldest son is wearing a black t-shirt and khaki pants. He is well groomed and embracing his mother with his arm around her, sitting down on beige cushions beside the campfire outside, just off their deck with the pine wood in the autumn weather as the sun is setting.

This scene concludes with a happy ending to the mental health initiative portrayed in the film.

Child Car Safety

0.01

The video shows a family composed of the mother, the father, a girl of approximately 6 years old who is holding her father’s hand, and a boy of approximately 3 years old who is carried by his mother. The family seems to have just left their house since they are very close to the door. The dad, in addition to holding the girl by the hand, in his free hand carries a carriage for the little boy and in his other hand, he carries a honeycomb as well as toys and a thermos. The mother on the other side carries the little boy in her arms, also what looks like a Spiderman backpack and her own bag as well as an iced coffee and an apple sauce. This indicates that they are going on some type of field trip or it could also be that they are going to do an outdoor activity since the day appears to be sunny and since everyone is dressed in what looks like spring clothes (shorts, t-shirts, overalls, etc. ). The fact that they carry all these things in a somewhat disorganized manner lets us know that they probably grabbed them on the run which indicates that they are running late. This is important to keep in mind since it’s related to what the ad wants to persuade us about (Child Car Safety).

0.02- 0.03

At this point, we can notice that the family is walking in slow motion which may indicate that they feel confident and that they are appreciating the environment outside. At 0.03 the camera suddenly zooms in on the mother’s face who is looking to her right. Her countenance appears reflective, almost as if she is trying to remember if she has forgotten something at home. On the other hand, the dad seems to be having a conversation with her daughter, since he has his head down watching her. Despite being unaware of the topic of their conversation, it’s evident that the girl is sharing something amusing, as indicated by her smile. Similarly, her father’s mirrored expression, coupled with a furrowed brow suggesting curiosity, suggests he’s poised to inquire further.

0.04 – 0.10

During these seconds, the disaster begins. The girl seems to have remembered where they are going, which has generated a lot of emotion in her. This causes her to start pulling on one of the toys hanging from the honeycomb that the dad is carrying, indicating that they should hurry to get to the car. Here we can see that the dad was eating a sandwich since he is carrying it in his mouth because he does not have enough hands to hold it. Because the girl keeps pulling him, she makes him throw the stroller along with other things he was carrying. This causes him to lightly touch her mother’s arm which makes her snap out of her thoughts and try to hold the child she is carrying in her arms in a better way. This little accident can give us a little more context about the disorganization and how distracted the parents are.

0.11 – 0.18

Things go downhill as the seconds tick by. The mother speeds up her pace trying to keep everything in its place. Furthermore, the girl has let go of her father’s hand and is heading to the car that is parked in front of the house. Due to the mother’s facial expression showing that she is stressed and worried, we can deduce that she is chasing the girl trying to stop her as they approach the main street. The dad on the other hand tries to maintain the balance between himself and the things he carries with him.

Finally, the entire family arrives at the car. We see the mom, balancing an iced coffee, carefully setting it on the roof of the car before securing the child she’s carrying into the baby seat.

0.19 – 0.25

The frame changes and we see the dad doing the same with the girl. We see the girl sitting in what also looks like a baby chair while she smiles eating popcorn. The camera zooms in for a second towards the safety belt being secured by the father. This is of utmost importance since this commercial is trying to persuade us about the importance of using the safety belt, especially with children.

Subsequently, the girl playfully shakes the popcorn container in front of the dad’s face, causing it to spill everywhere. This scene serves to inject a touch of humor into the situation, providing the audience with a momentary reprieve after the weighty message conveyed earlier. Unconsciously instills them to remember the importance of wearing a seat belt.

For a matter of seconds, the mom is also shown doing the same thing. Placing the boy in her baby seat as the camera zooms in on the seat belt being secured. This is to reinforce the message previously provided.

0.26 – 0.30

In the last four seconds, “NHTSA.gov/TheRightSeat” appears along with four different aligned drawings. Three of them are different baby seats and the last one is a normal car seat. All of these drawings emphasize the seat belt as it is in bold white.

In conclusion, the video skillfully captures a typical family outing that helps the audience identify with the actors. Each frame is meticulously crafted to deliver a compelling narrative about child safety in cars. The importance of fastening seat belts is highlighted through subtle clues and humorous scenes, especially for children. As the family experiences setbacks and distractions, the urgency of the message becomes more and more palpable. This is to be able to show the viewer that no matter how many distractions you have, it is of utmost importance not to forget the safety of the children. Leaving onlookers a lasting reminder to prioritize safety on the road.

The video starts with an african american man wearing a yellow shirt and dark blue jeans standing in front of a fence, behind the fence is what looks to be an athletic field.  Someone more knowledgeable on athletics could likely identify what kind of field.  Under the man’s left we can see a football.

0:01-0:04

This shot brings us closer to the man(The same man in the previous shot), instead of behind him we are at his left side zoomed in on the football in his arms.  The fence is still present and the man’s fingers are holding onto the fence with his right hand.  The camera then zooms up taking the focus off of the football and onto the man’s face.  The man keeps his eyes on the field, his face does not make any discernible expressions.

The next shot shows us to images, each taking up roughly half of the screen.  The image to the viewers left shows a man in a sports jersey, posing for a photograph, behind him is a white brick reminiscent of the interior of many American high schools.  He wears a black number four jersey.  The picture to the right shows what is presumably the same man due to the fact that he is wearing the same jersey.  In this photo he is wearing a helmet, and holding a football in another, while another person in a white and blue jersey tries to tackle him. The man in the photos is presumably the same man we saw in the previous shots.

0:07-0:09

The same man from earlier still wearing a yellow shirt is now sitting down in the room, in the background you can see rows of weights indicating that he is in a gym.  The weights are blurry and out of focus the man is the main focus in the bottom right of the screen we get some information Marcus M. Smith, II Mental health advocate/Pro Athlete.

0:09-0:10 The background shows us some of the sky indicating Marcus outside.  The camera is zoomed in on a football, he is wearing the same yellow shirt he was and the first few shots and in the gym. He is also flipping the football, indicating he is about to throw it.

0:10-0:11

This shot is essentially a zoomed out version of the second shot but now Marcus’s face is visible.  On his finger we can see a ring indicating that he is married.

0:12-0:13

We are now behind Marcus as he throws the football.  We can see parts of the field and trees in the background.  Perhaps he is on the same field s earlier. This shot and the previous few shots tell us that Marcus has always been and still is very physically active and healthy

0:13-0:14

Presumably the same scene as the previous second but we change the view from behind Marcus to in front of him, behind him to the viewers right we see a sign that looks to be a scoreboard and even further behind it are trees, to our left we can see a white building with a red line on it surrounded by a fence.  It is presumably some kind of sports field, likely for American football.

0:15-0:16

We cut back to Marcus in the gym.  Same background but now the camera is moved closer to his face, he moves his hand up into view and gestures by pointing a single finger towards his head. Based on the title of the video and the fact that he is presented to us as a mental health advocate, we can assume he points his finger to his head as if to say, “This is what’s important.” Referring to mental health. The likely message is that his mental health is a key part of his physical health.

0:16-0:17

In the next scene, we are now viewing an indoor sporting court, presumably for basketball, the room has a light brown floor and white walls.  On the back wall we see a red and yellow sign that with a mascot that says harroway hawks, above the sign is a basketball net suspended from the ceiling, behind the net to our left is the United States flag, and behind the next to our right is another flag, It has three horizontal stripes, the top and the bottom are red and the middle is white,  the middle stripe is thicker than the top and bottom.  In the flag’s upper left corner is a blue square with a circle of three stars surrounding a bronze emblem.  This is recognizably the flag of the US state of Georgia.  In the center left of the image we see Marcus with a blue shirt holding two children with basketballs. The children his is holding are either his children or perhaps nieces or nephews.

0:18-0:19

This is a low shot where we see a hands in a blue sleeve (presumably Marcus) holding up a child with a basketball to the hoop.

0:20-0:21

We have a close up shot of Marcus’s face behind him is a gray sky and out of focus trees.  To the right we see a woman hugging Marcus, she is wearing a blue shirt.  She is presumably his wife

0:21

Here we see a wider shot of Marcus and what is presumably his family sitting in a row in metal bleachers.  Behind them in a black chain link fence, and even further back is the sports field and the trees

0:22

The same as the previous shot but zoomed in on Marcus, his wife and two children.  Then it rapidly cuts to a close up of some of the other family members with focus on what I presume is Marcus’s father and mother

0:22-0:23

Marcus, his wife and one of two of their children are in view.  They are on the same bleachers as the previous shots but now we see them from a different angle.  Marcus is looking back at one of his children who is climbing on the bleachers, he turns his head back to the camera.

0:24

Here we see the child who was climbing on the bleachers but from a closer angle

0:25

In the center of the frame is Marcus and his family.  They are on the same bleachers.  They take up two rows.  On the first row from left to right is Marcus, a woman with a white shirt and black Jacket, a child, and an older looking woman.  Behind them from left to right is a man in a red shirt, a child with a red whistle in his mouth and a man wearing a black hoodie.

0:26

This is the same scene as previously but now the camera is zoomed in on Marcus, he appears to be lightly chuckling and smiling. The last few shots of Marcus’s family are likely there to demonstrate their importance to his mental health.

0:00-0:01- During the first second of the video, before any action actually begins, I can see a stuffed ferret on a branch next to a lamp. The wood panels on the house tell me it may be an older model and from all of the decorations that can be seen here, the house seems very broken in and lived in. The question that arises from this is now why did the filmmakers choose this set specifically? The filmmakers may have wanted to create a certain ambiance for the viewer. The decorations making the house look broken in may be deliberate. The filmmakers could be trying to create the effect of comfort and warmth during this part of the video for the audience. The title screen card for the channel pops up as well. It says “The Awkward Silence Presents” which just seems to be a friendly introduction to the rest of the video.

0:02-0:04- The camera cuts and shows us a new part of the house and we are introduced to the first official character of the video. This area of the house also has a lamp. A fish tank, a picture on the wall, books, a record player, and some glass antiques. Everything is still looking older in this house. Almost like a mid to late 70 style. The first character of this video is a young man who seems to be in his 20s. Why does the camera cut to this young man? Maybe he is trying to tell the audience something or he has a point to make. The way that he is sitting in the chair makes it seem like he is trying to tell a story. In this section of the video, a new screen card pops up that says “How to know if you should reach out to a friend.” From this screen card it is easy to recognize that this is what the video will be about. However, from all of this it is important to understand the whsimical and ironic tone that is being conveyed to the reader. This young man sitting in his chair in a narrative-like stance almost suggests a playful feel for the viewer. From the vibe we get so far, it is almost like this guy filmed this video in his grandpas basement. Which again suggests a sense of playfulness.

0:05- In this section of the video, the camera cuts close to the young man’s face. The camera may do this because the video may introduce something new to the audience so it is used as a sort of transition.

0:06-0:14- This part of the video transitions from the young man to several other characters. The camera is very close to their faces and it is a variety of people. Young men and women are speaking to the camera. They all speak to the camera for a very short amount of time as the camera continues to cut every second. The backgrounds are all very different. Some backgrounds have a lot of color and some really little color. Everyone is in a different setting. At the very beginning of the 14th second of the video, it cuts back to the young man sitting in a chair.

0:14-0:16- The camera is on the young man again and he is still sitting in the same position as he was. He is using a lot of hand motions. He might be using these hand motions to portray to the audience that he is trying to help them in a way.

0:17-0:21- The camera is still on the young man, but this time it is zoomed in even closer. The young man is still speaking and using hand motions.

0:22-0:26- At this point in the video, there is text that pops up on the screen again. This time it says “Find out how you can help a friend with their mental health at SiezeTheAwkward.org.” this writing is all in yellow which makes it stand out even more. There are also some icons underneath it as well. This text implies that this is what the video was about the entire time. Which is how to help your friends with their mental health if they are having issues with it. The background is a blurred-out closer shot of the fish tank and records that were seen previously in the video.

0:26-0:31- The end of the video is a link to another video that talks about mental health and friendship as well as a link to the website that was mentioned. The background is still the blurred-out fishtank and records.

This particular video is a bit hard to follow without sound. However, with sound, it is easy to see that the video contains elements of logos and pathos. When I went back and listened to the sound, there were reasons given to the audience to compare and contrast how friends could be acting in a way that could be considered weird. These are logical explanations. The whole video however relates to the elements of pathos. It draws in the feelings of the audience due to the topic of the video which is our friends and the people we hold closest to us. It is hard to imagine the people we love being upset so the video pulls us in.

Visual Rewrite—Snowman

0:00 – The video starts with a close-up of a leg, dressed in grey pants and green socks, on a wooden floor. It suggests someone is engaged in some form of activity, though the specifics are not immediately clear. Further details about the clothing, surroundings, and the activity would help paint a clearer picture and provide context for the scene.

0:01-0:02 – The scene transitions to reveal two individuals joyfully dancing in a cozy kitchen, likely a grandmother and granddaughter. Their synchronized movements and beaming expressions suggest a strong familial bond. The setting adds to the intimate atmosphere, and it seems like they might be recording the dance for social media platforms like TikTok, adding a modern twist to their interaction.

0:03-0:04 – A third person, possibly the mother, joins the dancers with a smile that seems both amused and concerned, adding depth to their relationship dynamics. The possibility of the granddaughter being the daughter of one of the dancers reinforces the family theme.

0:05-0:08 – The energy of their dance is contagious, evident in their smiles and expressions. The grandma’s smile and eye contact with her daughter hint at pride and resilience, suggesting she’s saying, “Look at me handling everything gracefully.” Exploring more about the grandma’s feelings and the daughter’s response would add depth to the analysis.

0:09-0:13 – The bond between the grandmother and granddaughter is highlighted as they share a light moment at the dinner table. The spread suggests abundance and hospitality, but there’s a subtle tension hinted at by the grandma’s distracted demeanor. Understanding why she’s uneasy would enhance the interpretation.

0:14-0:15 – The grandma seems lost in thought, contemplating something deeply. This vulnerable moment contrasts with the earlier joy and suggests underlying worries. Exploring her emotional state further would help understand her character better.

0:16-0:20 – The grandma’s moment of introspection is interrupted by her daughter, leading to a pivotal moment in the narrative. It hints at tensions within the family dynamic. Exploring the daughter’s role as a caregiver and her response to her mother’s emotions would provide valuable insights.

0:21-0:23 – The daughter’s concern for her mother is evident as she gently asks about her well-being. Despite the grandma’s reassurances, her daughter’s intuition suggests otherwise. This highlights the complexity of family relationships and communication challenges.

0:24-0:25 – There’s a subtle tension as the characters exchange glances, hinting at unspoken concerns. The grandma’s distracted behavior adds complexity to the scene, leaving the reader intrigued about her inner turmoil. Exploring more about the daughter’s response and the grandma’s emotional journey would deepen the narrative.

0:26-0:27 – The scene shifts to focus on the grandmother and her daughter in the family room, suggesting a continuation of their earlier conversation. This change in setting adds visual interest and shifts the dynamics between the characters. Exploring their interactions further would provide fresh insights into their relationship dynamics and the underlying tensions.

0:28-0:30 – The daughter’s reassurance to her mother serves as a touching conclusion to the sequence, highlighting their strong familial bond. Despite challenges, her unwavering support offers hope for the future. Analyzing their emotional journey and themes of resilience and love would enrich the interpretation, leaving a lasting impression on the reader.

In this visual narrative, emotions (PATHOS) take center stage, guiding the audience through a heartfelt journey of familial bonds and support. While logical progression (LOGOS) and ethical considerations (ETHOS) are present, it’s the emotional depth of joy, concern, and reassurance that resonates most strongly. Through relatable scenes and genuine expressions, viewers are drawn into the story, forging a powerful connection with the characters and their experiences. It’s this emotional appeal that makes the message impactful and enduring, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

0:01: The ad starts with an old fashion cartoon. The cartoon has washed colors to it. There are not a ton of rich and bright colors. The cartoon shows a middle aged man conducting a train that is carrying wood.

0:02-0:06: The camera zooms out to a little kid laying on his stomach watching the cartoon. He is in the living room of a decent sized house it looks like from the inside. The little boy is wearing pajamas and is enjoying the cartoon on the television. As this is all happening his dad walks up to him and starts tickling the kid on the floor and they both start laughing. There is a Saturday morning feel to the start of the ad. It seems like it is nice out as there is sun shining through the windows. It is also probably warm outside. The father and son have a lighting happiness.

0:07-0:09: The dad stops tickling the little boy and leaves the frame. There is now a shot of the little boy laying on his back looking at the ceiling. The sun is coming through the door and windows. It is shining on him. The little boy has a smile on his face and looks like he was excited to see his dad.

0:10-0:13:The camera then cuts to the dad walking into the kitchen. The kitchen top has two bowls stacked and an empty glass that looks like something they ate earlier. Or they could be getting ready to eat.

0:14-0:18: The camera shows the dad about to wash his hands. This can imply that he is washing and about to start making lunch or dinner. He is also in the kitchen which also means that he could be starting to make food for him and his son. It then cuts to the son who is now standing up and looking at his dad. There is a medium close up of the little boy to express that he is going to say something important. The boy then says something to his dad who finished washing his hands.

0:19-0:26: The screen then goes blank and two sentences pop up on the screen one by one. The first one says, “8 kids a day are accidentally killed or injured by FAMILY FIRE.” The second sentence states, “FAMILY FIRE is a shooting involving an improperly stored gun.”

The rhetorical element that is mainly used here is pathos because it tries to use your feelings to persuade the viewer to make sure you stored your gun in an area where kids can not access it. The ad tries and shows how happy and warm everything can be going and in a snap of the fingers it can go wrong. The ad is a bit misleading up until the final seconds of it. This is because you do not get a ton of context of what the main idea of the ad is. After breaking the ad down without sound, I went back and listened to it with sound. It definitely helps you understand the context a bit more.

0:00-0:01- What looks like a Man and a Women in a relationship are standing in some kind of field. Looks like it could possibly be a farm. The couple looks seemingly happy as they are standing next to each other with their arms wrapped around one another.

0:02-0:03- They are walking through the field holding hands. One could assume that this is possibly their house or farm they are walking on.

0:04- The camera cuts to them holding a sign with their hands, this is a fairly large sign that reads “Sewell Berry Farms”. The couple is smiling at what looks like the pride that they have in the sign, or the name. This could possibly be a family name.

0:05-0:07- There are old pictures shown of a man on a tractor, a man with a child, and a family picture. 2 of the 3 photos look like they were taken at the farm. This could be a possible sentemate to the farm. The older man in the pictures could possibly be the younger mans father.

0:08- This clip reads “Marshal, 5th generation farmer. This clip is of the man “Marshal” and the women from previous clips sitting for what looks like an interview.

0:09-0:13- The couple continues to walk through the field, it is unknown the real contents on the field, but we would assume it is some kind of berry or berries due to the sign that was shown earlier.

0:14- The man picks a strawberry, leading us to believe that now the field contains strawberries.

0:15-0:16- This clip reads “Taylor, farming advocate”. This was the lady who was shown before with Marshal. It does not say she is his wife we can can assume they are in a romantic relationship due to their body language in prior clips.

0:17-0:19- Marshal is leaning up against a tree staring into the farm beyond him.

0:20-0:21: Marshal is walking through the field of strawberries once more.

0:22-0:26- Marshal and Taylor are seen with a young child who we can assume is their child. They start by playing her on the porch of a farm house, then carry her through the field smiling and laughing.

0:27-0:30- A message comes up saying “love, your mind”.
