Reckless Teen Driving In Explicit Detail

The YouTube channel AdCouncil released a video about reckless driving in an attempt to get teenagers to be safer behind the wheel. The video begins by transitioning from a black screen to four teenagers seated in a car. The camera angle is looking in at the kids from the front, as if there was a camera glued to the hood of the car. Three of the four ‘teenagers’ actually appear to be in their teens while the fourth is being portrayed by a seemingly middle-aged man. This middle-aged man however, isn’t just a random person. Instead the fourth teenager is played by actor Rob Riggle. One of the kids in the backseat introduces Riggle as his cousin from Michigan. Riggle then greets the rest of the group with a casual ‘What’s up’. The other two kids in the front seats don’t really acknowledge either of them. The driver then pulls away, looking very focused on the road, while the three passengers gaze relaxingly out the window. A few seconds pass while all of the teenagers sit in silence. Then, Riggle notices that the driver is picking up speed at an alarming rate. He breaks the silence by leaning forward and suggesting that the driver slows down. The driver, while still remaining very focused on the road, responds only with an aggressive: ‘No’. By observing Riggle’s facial expressions you can easily tell that he’s somewhat taken aback. The other to passengers continue looking out the windows. He leans back in his seat and, without saying anything, he proceeds to take out a video camera. The driver’s stone-faced expression softens as he notices what Riggle is doing. He asks, in a concerned tone, what Riggle is doing to which Riggle replies with: ‘Shooting a viral video!’. His new upbeat and exited attitude seems very out of place because he then goes on to suggest that this will be the teenagers’ last five minutes on earth. We can now start to notice increasingly worried looks on the other passengers’ eyes but they continue to sit in silence. Riggle also suggests that the other teens apologize to their mothers, hinting that they’re all going to get into a fatal car accident. The camera angle now shifts for the first time to the car driving out of sight. The logo for AdCouncil appears on the screen paired with the words: ‘If Your Friend Is Driving Recklessly, Say Something’. The ad comes to a close with the car driving out of frame before the screens fades to black.
