Women’s Heart Disease

  • The ad starts out by showing a woman of color standing in an old fashioned kitchen with clothes lined up hanging to dry from the ceiling.  This suggests that this specific part of the scene is held during the time where women did not exactly have equal rights as men do.
  • Because there are clothes hanging on the ceiling it suggests that she is the typical housewife who cleans the house and keeps it in good shape.
  • Since there is no man in the scene, it suggests that he is off at work making money while the wife (making an assumption that she is a wife) taking care of the house.
  • The next scene shows the woman elevates through the ceiling from a textile style room. The floor then elevates and busts through the roof which mounted the woman behind a podium.
  • The elevation showed her as a woman empowering herself and rising above the old reputation and the old lifestyle of how women were portrayed.
  • The crowd is all women of different races showing that no matter what kind of woman you are, they all have something in common; that they are strong and independent.
  • Along with the “WOMEN UNITED” posters that are hung around the walls showing again independence from society and that women can do anything anyone else can do.  The American flag is directly behind the woman on the podium, suggesting that there is a change in America and how society views women.
  • The next scene shows once again the floor elevating to a higher level, maybe a higher social status, or in the business world.
  • She is standing in an office that looks high class along with the suit that she is wearing.
  • At the closing scene she says, “Today women can do anything men can do. And there’s one thing we’re even better at.”  America has changed the way in seeing and treating men and women equally. When she is lying on the floor it is because of heart disease and the thing that women are better at than men is dying because of heart disease.  This disease does not just occur in men it occurs in women as well.  All in all, we are all human; we can achieve the same successes and catch the worst disease.
